For any chemical I am dealing with I treat it as if it is extremely toxic. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be a guinea pig. There are a lot of ideas on how to kill a tree on the internet. Many of which I have tried and they didn’t work on my Chinese Elms. It may work on your tree but regardless these take a long time to completely kill. Here are a few methods that I would avoid if you’re trying to kill a tree fast. I am convinced that the methods listed below worked for people because their tree was already killed by just cutting it down. They may work but they didn’t work for me. Salt Tordon will kill bamboo if treated properly. Cut the bamboo a few inches from the ground and paint the tops with Tordon. This will completely kill the roots and all so it will not continue to grow. To be able to get the best out of your Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide, be sure to store it in a cool dry place and not where it can become frozen or too heated, otherwise the product's efficacy may become compromised. As far as application goes, w e do not recommend applying Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide, or any herbicide, when temperatures are below 55 degrees. Tordon RTU is a ready-to-use herbicide manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA, an applied as a cut surface treatment. Since it is ready-to-use, Tordon RTU does not need to be diluted or mixed with water or any other liquid.

I wanted to figure out what the professionals used to kill trees. The most popular and recommended tree killer used by arborists is called Tordon. Simply apply Tordon to a freshly cut stump (within 30 min)and Tordon will kill even the hardiest of trees. My neighbor hired an arborist to cut down and kill two massive Elm trees in his front yard. Elms are some of the hardiest trees and Tordon did the job. Within a few days, both trees were completely dead. For more steps, pictures, and info on how to kill a tree with Tordon and other chemicals in my article on How To Kill A Tree. Seal Stump with Plastic You don’t need to paint the whole stump only the outer cambium ring. Unless you already have most of these chemicals on hand it is cheaper to just buy Tordon. Gordon’s Stump Killer After treating a tree with Tordon the tree should be completely dead within one week to 30 days. After a few days, Tordon should have affected the tree enough to remove the stump or root. Spray Trees One of the advantages of using Tordon RTU is that it only affects the tree that you treat. Other trees in the vicinity will not suffer from side effects or damage.

The product can irritate the eyes and skin, particularly in the concentrated form, so take care when measuring it out and adding it to the spray unit. If any does splash into your eyes or onto your skin, wash immediately with clean water. Tordon RTU is not recommended for eliminating weeds. When weed control is needed, we recommend an herbicide that is labeled for the specific area being treated. Bamboo is not a woody plant in that under the sleek veneer, the plant doesn’t have fibrous cells where picloram, the active ingredient in Tordon RTU can travel and destroy the inner structure of the plant. BEST ANSWER: No, you have to get it into the root system of the tree. The best way to do this is to either drill holes into the tree and fill them with tordon, cut into the tree several times and apply tordon or you can try mixing tordon with a few gallons of water and throwing this around the base of the tree, but this may take several efforts and may spread the poison around the place when it rains more. The most effective way to use tordon is to cut the tree down and put it on the fresh stump.

That said, some trees tend to share common roots, so treating one tree with Tordon will allow the herbicide access to the other trees and could damage them as well. This is usually the case for such tree species as cottonwood, poplars, and aspens. Why Is Tordon Herbicide Blue? To be on the safe side, allow up to 2 months after applying Tordon before growing plants in that spot again. Can You Replant After Using Tordon? I haven’t personally tried this yet but everything that I have read says it takes over a year to kill the tree. Definitely not the fastest way to kill a tree. Basically, you buy copper nails and nail them around the trunk of the tree. The copper will leach into the tree and slowly kill it after a year or so. Girdling Also, keep in mind that the amount of Tordon will vary based on the tree size. Step 4: Inject Tordon Into The Tree Tordon RTU can be applied to poison ivy to safely kill it without the risk of trying to cut down the creeping plant. Take the usual safety precautions when applying Tordon and later when collecting the dead poison ivy to dispose of it. Will Tordon Kill Grass?Use provides excellent control of single- and multi-stemmed saplings where foliar spraying would be difficult or pose a risk to the environment. When a tree is diseased or infected, it can affect the natural growth of its surrounding vegetation. You need an excellent herbicide like Tordon that can work fast and effectively to kill the tree. Frustrated, I call several Arborists (people who kill trees for a living) and asked what they recommend I use to kill my trees. Weeds die fast. Some within hours of application start to wilt. Application on weeds in grass killed them WITHOUT hurting grass

Once you’re all geared up, make two-inch cuts on the tree trunk using an ax to reach its sapwood. Cut at two to four feet height all across the circumference of the tree, leaving two to three inches of space in between each cut. Step 3: Fill The Tree Injector With Tordon The active ingredients in Tordon RTU target the enzymes in the plants, preventing the plant from growing new cells that later would turn into stems and leaves. That way, the affected plants won’t have a chance to regrow. Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide would be best applied as close to cutting the stump as possible, but you can do it the next day if needed. You just want to be sure it is applied to a fresh cut stump, not one that has been cut weeks prior. This is the only thing I have found to take care of leafy spurge. Killed it. So grateful to be able to find something that finally works.BEST ANSWER: Tordon RTU Herbicide is highly active as a herbicide, is water-soluble, can move with surface runoff water, and can remain phytotoxic for a year or more if it gets into the soil. Tordon RTU can be used effectively against a wide variety of trees, shrubs, and woody plants that are either invasive or taking up space on your property.

As an herbicide, Tordon RTU only affects plants by disrupting their growth process. It doesn’t target animals or insects.BEST ANSWER: I would assume it works on Bamboo. I've never tried. It works, eventually, on Mimosas. A very invasive tree that grows like crazy down here. For a larger tree it takes a few applications. Tordon is biodegradable, and the microorganisms in the soil will take care of the active ingredients on their own. You won’t need to treat the soil or flush the toxins out of it. BEST ANSWER: Yes you can. Cut the wood cleanly and apply it in the amount specified (very small amount). It should kill the plant within a week or so. Just be careful not to spill, splash or allow runoff of Tordon on anything you don't want killed. When using any herbicide like Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide you need to give the product ample time to dry and become rainfast after application. Depending on weather conditions we suggest giving the product anywhere from 2-4 hours to fully dry. If rain is in the forecast within the next 4 hours we would suggest waiting for drier conditions. Wear suitable protective clothing when measuring out the product and when spraying, such as overalls or a long-sleeved shirt and long trousers, along with a washable hat, elbow-length chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses, goggles or a face shield. Wash all clothing after use.
