For any chemical I am dealing with I treat it as if it is extremely toxic. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be a guinea pig. There are a lot of ideas on how to kill a tree on the internet. Many of which I have tried and they didn’t work on my Chinese Elms. It may work on your tree but regardless these take a long time to completely kill. Here are a few methods that I would avoid if you’re trying to kill a tree fast. I am convinced that the methods listed below worked for people because their tree was already killed by just cutting it down. They may work but they didn’t work for me. Salt Tordon will kill bamboo if treated properly. Cut the bamboo a few inches from the ground and paint the tops with Tordon. This will completely kill the roots and all so it will not continue to grow. To be able to get the best out of your Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide, be sure to store it in a cool dry place and not where it can become frozen or too heated, otherwise the product's efficacy may become compromised. As far as application goes, w e do not recommend applying Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide, or any herbicide, when temperatures are below 55 degrees. Tordon RTU is a ready-to-use herbicide manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA, an applied as a cut surface treatment. Since it is ready-to-use, Tordon RTU does not need to be diluted or mixed with water or any other liquid.

The best way to do this is to either drill holes into the tree and fill them with tordon, cut into the tree several times and apply tordon or you can try mixing tordon with a few gallons of water and throwing this around the base of the tree, but this may take several efforts and may spread the poison around the place when it rains more. The most effective way to use tordon is to cut the tree down and put it on the fresh stump.

That said, some trees tend to share common roots, so treating one tree with Tordon will allow the herbicide access to the other trees and could damage them as well. This is usually the case for such tree species as cottonwood, poplars, and aspens. Why Is Tordon Herbicide Blue? To be on the safe side, allow up to 2 months after applying Tordon before growing plants in that spot again. Can You Replant After Using Tordon? I haven’t personally tried this yet but everything that I have read says it takes over a year to kill the tree. Definitely not the fastest way to kill a tree. Basically, you buy copper nails and nail them around the trunk of the tree. The copper will leach into the tree and slowly kill it after a year or so. Girdling Also, keep in mind that the amount of Tordon will vary based on the tree size. Step 4: Inject Tordon Into The Tree Tordon RTU can be applied to poison ivy to safely kill it without the risk of trying to cut down the creeping plant. Take the usual safety precautions when applying Tordon and later when collecting the dead poison ivy to dispose of it. Once you’re all geared up, make two-inch cuts on the tree trunk using an ax to reach its sapwood. Cut at two to four feet height all across the circumference of the tree, leaving two to three inches of space in between each cut. You just want to be sure it is applied to a fresh cut stump, not one that has been cut weeks prior. This is the only thing I have found to take care of leafy spurge. Killed it. As an herbicide, Tordon RTU only affects plants by disrupting their growth process. It doesn’t target animals or insects.BEST ANSWER: I would assume it works on Bamboo. I've never tried. It works, eventually, on Mimosas. A very invasive tree that grows like crazy down here. For a larger tree it takes a few applications. Tordon is biodegradable, and the microorganisms in the soil will take care of the active ingredients on their own. You won’t need to treat the soil or flush the toxins out of it. BEST ANSWER: Yes you can. Cut the wood cleanly and apply it in the amount specified (very small amount). It should kill the plant within a week or so. Just be careful not to spill, splash or allow runoff of Tordon on anything you don't want killed. When using any herbicide like Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide you need to give the product ample time to dry and become rainfast after application. Depending on weather conditions we suggest giving the product anywhere from 2-4 hours to fully dry. If rain is in the forecast within the next 4 hours we would suggest waiting for drier conditions. Wear suitable protective clothing when measuring out the product and when spraying, such as overalls or a long-sleeved shirt and long trousers, along with a washable hat, elbow-length chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses, goggles or a face shield. Wash all clothing after use.
