As much as Loren doesn't want to admit it, Darien is her best and only chance at finding her friend alive, if she can somehow manage to get along with him—and not fall head-over-heels in love with him in the process, which is far easier said than done. Our other main character, Darrien Cassel, was your typical morally grey character with a sad backstory nonsense. The pacing was fantastic, the character depth and development was wonderful, the plot was exciting, the world building was fleshed out and interesting, the dialogue was plentiful and pertinent, the prose was well edited and enjoyable, it was just overall such a great read. This book is a crossover between Crescent city (more whinier) and the Mortal instruments (more childish) and maybe even Nevernight (less badass). I loved her and Dariens relationship, the slowburn is delicious and the sexual tension is amazing, I loved the angst between them.

The romance was good, with great tension… until it wasn’t because it was too slow, absolutely nothing happens (I think they finally kiss for the first time around page 450ish) and there is a lot of back and forth “we can and then we can’t” from our male MC. Their power lay in their upper body appearance: they were beautiful, young women and had a charming voice when they sang. She failed to make the same mistakes that commonly befall younger heroines trying to “find their way” and won my heart over SO fast in the process. City of Gods and Monsters is easily one of my top 5 favorite books and I’m honestly in awe of how amazing this book is.I mean you won´t find a guy who will kidnap you and take you out to dinner in the process just anywhere. Although I wish I would´ve gotten a bit more background story on the Devils, but maybe that will happen in book 2. Well… I absolutely devoured this book whole and am refusing to spit out it’s bones, they’re mine too.
