On Baby Im gonna leave you sure the individual guitar strings sound clearer but the vocals are lost along with the emotion in the music. While this box is not bad I would only recommend it if you are not a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and you want the best songs on a newer release. I read that review and haven't done a side by side comparison yet, but as soon as my girlfriend runs off, I intend to do some comparison.

Mothership-- a collection of 24 of Led Zeppelin's "greatest hits," remastered and selected by the band's three remaining members (Page, as well as Robert Plant and John Paul Jones)-- might be conceptually flawed, but it's hard to argue against songs as indisputably great as these.

The two-CD edition shares most tracks with the original two-CD compilation Led Zeppelin Remasters, but with " When the Levee Breaks" and " Over the Hills and Far Away" instead of " Celebration Day" and " The Battle of Evermore. Surprisingly bubble wrap is used which looks a little cheap, a custom dampening material would have felt more exclusive if it had matched the slick aesthetic. The legendary group's comprehensive Vinyl collection featuring 24 epic songs chosen, sequenced and remastered in 2008 under the band's direct supervision! Led Zeppelin's legacy so significantly shaped the next four decades of rock'n'roll and heavy metal that to further discount any one of those tracks seemed brash, negligent, or stupid.

Mew is fairly impressed with Mothership; he would have made it less in-your-face, he suggests, "but that's just personal taste". Edit: After more careful listening and perhaps with a bit of prejudice I have to re evaluate some of my standpoints.A brilliant idea to minimize damage on the actual jacket sleeves which you of course may fill once opened. But like television adverts, which use similar compression techniques to be louder than the programs they interrupt, it sure as hell makes an impression. The booklet and sleeves are stacked on top like normal but empty, leaving the records at the bottom in separate plastic sleeves.

And to make it louder, you have to compromise on some of the detail, because there's only so much information a CD can process. It's not as in-yer-face, not as detailed, but it has a flow and a sense of space that you didn't realise you were missing before. So if you're reinventing a back catalogue, as Mew did for Bowie, or as the producer Nick Davies has done for Genesis, mind your back.

Although I would encourage them to seek out good condition originals if they want Zeppelin in the best sound quality possible and for the many Great songs that are not included in this set. Im going to start collecting the Classic Records releases and compare, supposedly they are the best since the original. The 94 Remaster - Sounds much more natural, still plenty of kick IMO and I can't say I ever thought that the remastered levels were too low, in fact they seem pushed to distortion. Nice to have Immigrant Song on the same record with other great tracks too, because I really don’t like Zeppelin 3 as much as I do their other albums. Mew raises a weary eyebrow at the 1990 version -- "Not a very powerful sound" -- but we both find the new version irresistible. The album is a must, argues Uncut magazine, "for those who wish to hear Zep at their heaviest, deepest, softest and crispest".
