The Royal Family has a long history with Scotland and King Charles III spent much of his younger life growing up and being educated there.Add the flour and use a spatula to mix into a smooth dough. You may find it easier just to use your hands after a while. Aim to minimise how much you handle the dough though – the less it is worked, the less the gluten develops which makes for a more melt-in-the-mouth final result. Fortnum and Mason's Holly Hughes-Metcalf first noticed a renewed interest in edible gifts during the pandemic.

While this was a traditional strawberry trifle in terms of the fruit, jelly, custard and cream layers, it had quite an unusual taste with an almost aniseedy flavour which I really liked. A spokesperson said: "M&S collectable tins have become quite the icon with shoppers going wild when they hit stores and selling out within weeks. M&S revealed the new coronation range on social media, much to the excitement of royal fans. One person commented: "It’s starting!! I’ve got bunting!" And a second shopper wrote: "Why does that shortbread always taste better in these tins? Had the jubilee ones last year as well." It stood up well compared to the others as a classic "entry level trifle" I'd say. I liked the way the sponge was squishy and soaked into the fruit and jelly layers too. Each of the distinguished tins are also adorned with the official Royal Warrant for the supply of shortbread to the Royal Household which the Scottish family business was awarded with in 2017, as well as a prominent headline tribute of If you're plumping for a traditional strawberry trifle, with jelly, custard and cream, then the three we tried from Asda, Morrison's and Aldi were not all that different from each other in style and taste. Indeed my family testers felt they "all tasted the same".

Stamp out rectangle shapes with a 5.5x8.5cm/2¼x3½in cutter (or similar size) and transfer to the baking trays. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, or in the freezer for 10 minutes. lt;p>These delightful Mini Shortbread Rounds are presented in a commemorative tube decorated with the Royal Coat of Arms, Their Majesties' joint cypher and ribbons entwined with the flowers of all four nations of the United Kingdom. </p> In terms of the best trifle, then the crown for me goes straight to M&S. They said it was their "Best Ever" trifle on the label, and for me it was the best of the entire bunch we tested here. Yes, it's more expensive, but on taste it was a clear winner. Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin)( Cereals containing gluten ), Butter ( Milk ), Sugar, Salt, I was extremely honoured and touched to have been among the first honours presented by His Majesty King Charles III, whom I first had the honour of meeting many years ago and so, combined with our shared long association with the Royal Family and Scotland, it is very special to be able to commemorate the Coronation and His Majesty with these celebratory tins.”
