Update! It has now been confirmed that the firmware on this device is configured as “ Zigbee End Device” (ZED) so not a “Zigbee Router” (ZR), meaning that it will not route/repeat messages to work as a Zigbee signal repeater or mesh range extender, and being a “ Zigbee End Device” (ZED) will also have a sleepy configuration which may affect its response times, e.g. more similar to other battery operated devices than to an always-on mains-powered device. B) How does this device function when not connected to a Zigbee hub (like say the hub is malfunctioning or unplugged)? Does it just use the switch signal to control the relay – thus acting like a dumb switch? The shell can be opened by separating the shell down the middle. Inside is a small 8A relay which partly allowed for the significant size reduction. Zigbee communication is running on a modern Silabs EFR32MG22 chip.

Next, we will hook up ZBMINI Extreme to some traditional devices in our home. Refer to the diagram below as a guideline showing how to wire the power cable to it. Make sure the mains are turned off during installation. We have two diagrams as examples: a desk lamp and a ceiling light. I used my Sonoff ZigBee Bridge to get it paired with my eWeLink account and had my first playtest there. The pairing process is uneventful and the device once is in pairing mode (hold button for 5 sec) connects in seconds. It’s worth mentioning that without pairing, I had problems operating the physical switch. FYI, ITead SONOFF ZBMINI-L Zigbee 3.0 Smart Switch installs without neutral wire and is based on the CC2652P (CC2652 P1F) chip. The thing is that when testing it, the ZBMini-L2 does not turn on if it does not have a load on the Lout gate.
