When a girlfriend ended their relationship, it is rumoured that he had her little brother’s pet rabbit chopped into four and nailed to the front door of the family home to greet him when he got home from school, in true Mafia style. Instead a major publisher has seen fit to release a book, so we must say clearly that this is nonsense, and everyone involved should be ashamed. He got bounced into policy decisions he didn’t agree with, he was fooled into appointing enemies or incompetents into every role around him, he even got fooled into fronting a Leave campaign by people who actually never wanted to win the referendum! I picked up this book in the admittedly naive hope that the title might imply the existence of at least one of these two kinds of plots.

Dorries casts herself as both a master observer of people, someone with the inside track, and yet also hopelessly naive - if she really didn’t know Cummings was leaking stories to senior journalists, she is the only person in Westminster who didn’t. She trained as a nurse, then followed by establishing her own successful business which she sold prior to embarking on a career in politics.

And yet, just three years later, he was ousted by the same MPs who had greeted his leadership so rapturously. Gove and Cummings, meanwhile, have sought to laugh it off, the latter smirking: “She’s right, there was a giant conspiracy including MI6, the CIA and, most crucially, the KGB special operations department. There are worse places to base yourself when you are writing a book than in a secret nook in Mayfair where someone brings you food and drink all day".

It is worth pointing out that Mr Cummings has himself said that he started discussing the possibility of ousting his-then boss Boris Johnson as early as January 2020, less than a month after Mr Johnson won a landslide victory. Instead, we get Moneypenny’s analysis that Johnson never realised what the plotters were doing because “it’s the big picture for him, always … he was obsessed about delivering on his manifesto promises”, which suggests she isn’t destined for a long intelligence career. So dark are the arts that only allusions to James Bond can do them justice, and so we find chapters headed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Moneypenny. Of course the characters in the TV show were more intelligent than the players in this book, but hilarious just the same.

Yep that’s right, ‘The Plot’ is far from Dorries’s first attempt at fiction, with the former culture secretary already having 16 novels to her name. The Plot is the seismic, fly-on-the-wall account of how the saviour of the Conservative Party became a pariah.

I read the book because I was curious as to what Nadine had to say, and I am left wondering if there is a cabal of men who have conspired for many years to insert politicians and civil servants in various roles and constituencies. I have not been able to read all of it – because what I have read have made me realise it is total, utter, ridiculous, garbage! Rishi Sunak is under pressure to investigate the book's "bombshell" claim that his party covered up alleged rapes by a Tory MP, said the Daily Mail.Beginning with the controversial prorogation of Parliament in August and the historic landslide election victory later that year, Johnson was barely through the door of No.
