After performing these steps, the pairing protocol of both the AmpliFi router and the mesh point(s) should be realigned. Troubleshooting Standalone MeshPoints Standalone HD Mesh Router (AFI-R) is great for powerful coverage in an average sized space. Additionally, the standalone mesh router can be a powerful tool when added to existing AmpliFi systems. The AmpliFi line is targeted at consumers, and industry-wide (not just Ubiquiti) vendors tend not to create useful documentation for consumers. Even if there is documentation initially, it is often abandoned and never updated. Please note that the Teleport VPN feature is now available without any extra hardware: with the Teleport App or Router to Router Teleport modes, and is compatible with all our routers: HD, Instant, Gamer and Alien. Teleport hardware device is not compatible with Alien.

The app also has a speed test that it calls an "ISP test." Without the mesh point, devices in the same room as the router typically test no faster than 45 Mbps down and 12 up. The ISP connection is 100 Mbps down, but the 2.4GHz band and interference from nearby networks slows down the Wi-Fi.

For some replacement processes or for configurations—particularly pairing a new AmpliFi MeshPoint or Router, it will be important to determine if it is a standalone device or if it was bought as part of a system, or kit. Devices that are bundled together in a kit are hard-coded to each other and therefore cannot be paired with any other device. Once we did, we saw the speeds at the top floor of the house (where the MeshPointHD was installed) climbing to 74.4Mbps, pretty much the same speed as when we were in the same room as the main Amplifi router.
