It’s really quite effective at removing stuff, too. In the below examples, I’ve removed both a lamppost and a skyscraper, and while it’s not completely seamless – you can see some clues where they’ve been deleted – the Pixel 6 got rid of what I wanted rather well.

Perhaps the most intriguing upgrade to this year’s Google phones is the least visible. Inside the Pixel 6 resides the first Google-produced processor: the Google Tensor. This is an octa-core part that looks similar in makeup to the Snapdragon 888. Built on a 5nm manufacturing process, it has a pair of 2.8GHz ARM-X1 cores for running high-performance jobs, two “medium” 2.25GHz ARM A76 cores and four low-power ARM A55 efficiency cores running at 1.8GHz. It’s not that uncommon to see 120Hz at this price (Asus Zenfone 8, OnePlus 9) either. Connectivity options on the Google Pixel 6 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, GPS, Bluetooth v5.20, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India) , and 5G with active 4G on both SIM cards. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, in-display fingerprint sensor, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor. It supports 800Hz mmWave connectivity and 200MHz of Sub-6 5G; as mentioned, the Verizon version of the Pixel 6 is the only model with mmWave antennae.

Panorama, portrait mode, Top Shot, Super Res Zoom, Frequent Faces, Cinematic Pan, Motion Mode, Real Tone, Face Unblur, Magic Eraser, Portrait Light, Motion autofocus, Astrophotography timelapse Tensor is the first chip made by Google, just for Pixel. It's the same chip used in Pixel 6 Pro, so it helps keep your phone running smoothly and efficiently. Android 12 will of course be available on older Pixel phones (and other Android devices, although don’t expect the same features everywhere), but it does feel as if it has been designed for these Pixel phones specifically. Battery LifeOne of the notable design differences between the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is the latter’s curving screen. The regular Pixel 6, on the other hand, has a more traditional flat panel – which I actually prefer. Ideally, I would like a flat screen with the specs of the Pro model.

According to Google, Tensor delivers “up to 80% more performance than Pixel 5”, which runs on a Snapdragon 765G. In typical Google fashion, the search giant says its AI features enable better performance across a slew of machine-learning-specific tasks. The most important thing to note is that the Pixel 6 is the very first handset to be powered by Google’s in-house Tensor chipset. Ditching Qualcomm and avoiding Exynos and Kirin, Tensor promises a handful of performance and efficiency improvements over last year’s mid-range Snapdragon 765G, and it represents a bold new future for Google. Google didn't disclose the Pixel 6’s modem at its launch event, nor when we asked for additional details about it. After some research with Sascha Segan, PCMag's lead mobile analyst, we're confident the phone uses Samsung's Exynos 5123 modem. How about that Magic Eraser tool? In a word, it’s magic. If a stranger, overhead cable or lamppost is photobombing what would otherwise be an Insta-worthy picture, all you’ve got to do is edit the image, select Magic Eraser in the Tools section and draw an outline with your finger around what you want removed. The Pixel 6 then takes care of the rest in a couple of seconds. The company is again focusing its efforts on strengthening the Pixel’s camera capabilities. The rear camera is now a 50MP affair (up from 12.2MP), complemented by a 12MP ultrawide unit and a 12MP selfie snapper on the front. The camera’s new “Magic Eraser” tool now allows you to remove objects and people from the image just by circling them in the edit, too. For the selfie camera, images are fine but nothing special. It’s a similar story for video, especially compared to the iPhone 13. 4K 60fps video looks good and the stabilisation is excellent, but there’s certainty fewer options here than elsewhere. Performance Pixel Fold: Estimated battery life based on testing using a median Pixel user battery usage profile across a mix of talk, data, standby and the use of other features. Average battery life during testing was approximately 33 hours. Battery testing conducted on a major operator network. Battery testing based on mix of inner and outer screen use and conducted in California in early 2023 on pre-production hardware and software using default settings. Battery life depends upon many factors and usage of certain features will decrease battery life. Actual battery life may be lower. Google Tensor’s custom image processor lets the all-new Pixel Camera capture fun times and starry nights exactly how you remember them.

Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a: For '24-hour': Estimated battery life based on testing using a median Pixel user battery usage profile across a mix of talk, data, standby and the use of other features. Average battery life during testing was approximately 31 hours. Battery testing conducted on a major operator network. For 'up to 72 hours': Estimated battery life based on testing using a median Pixel user battery usage profile across a mix of talk, data, standby and use of limited other features that are default in Extreme Battery Saver mode (which disables various features including 5G connectivity). Battery testing conducted on a major operator network. For both claims: Battery testing conducted in California in early 2022 on pre-production hardware and software using default settings, except that for the 'up to 72 hours' claim only, Extreme Battery Saver mode was enabled. Battery life depends upon many factors and usage of certain features will decrease battery life. Actual battery life may be lower. The Pixel 6 has had a launch unlike any other phone I can remember, with Google revealing just about every facet of the device ahead of a full release. Megapixels aren't everything and the Google Pixel phones are the biggest example of that. The top-tier computation photography features they have makes the absolute most out of the 50MP wide (f/1.85) and 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2) rear cameras accompanied by the 8MP (f/2.0) front camera. The colours are highly accurate rather than being vibrant, the images are crisp and the white balance is on point. If the colours would be underwhelming with certain shots, the photo editing features are quite advanced and capable of producing some impressive looking edits. Pixel 6: Price UK I took the Pixel 6 and iPhone 13 Pro to an Arsenal football match and both churned out very good snaps in the darkness. The shots from the iPhone were marginally warmer in tone (you can see the two below) but whether or not that’s better is down to personal preference. I’d say the Pixel 6 produced an image more akin to what I was actually seeing. The iPhone 13 Pro shot is warmer in tone The Pixel 6 is a little cooler Despite being initially wowed by the revamped design, my impression was tainted slightly when I first took it out of the box. Maybe seeing it in so many images, both leaked and official, ahead of release made me accustomed to the looks but I wasn’t as impressed as I was expecting. What I can test, however, is whether the Pixel 6 lives up to Google’s lofty performance claims. Running the Geekbench 5 test, which scores both single- and multicore CPU performance, the Pixel 6 scored 1,031 and 2,843 respectively. Compare those figures to the Pixel 5 and we’re looking at a roughly 75% increase in raw speeds. The all-day battery, reimagined interface and Smooth Display all adapt to the way you use your phone. Plus you get powerful 5G and enhanced Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Ready for life's little accidents - Pixel 6 is built from Pixel's toughest Gorilla Glass yet, with up to 2x better scratch resistance than previous Pixel phones. And with IP68 protection, it can take on a little water and dust with no problems. It's just as durable as it is beautiful. One of the most interesting parts of the Pixel 6 is the new chipset. Instead of the usual Qualcomm SoC (system-on-chip) you’d typically find in a Pixel phone (or any other Android handset, for that matter), the Pixel 6 is powered by Google’s own Tensor silicon. In real-world use, I haven’t been too concerned about performance, aside from the responsiveness issues I mentioned above. Games play fine and are on par with the higher-end devices powered by Qualcomm chips. There’s 5G support too and 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. Note that there’s no way to up that amount, so choose wisely.
