About this deal

and EDT for the day even though you could wear it day or night and all seasons, just maybe not peak summer. I think the burnt aspect can be put on account of the pepper and the sweet aspect on account of the balm-tolu. But give it a bit and after about 10-15 min it starts to follow the opening and progression of the EDT albeit at a slower more prolonged pace with slightly more modulated spicey blast as compared to the EDT, but still with a stronger black currant note which is much nicer once it takes a step back.

In any case Opium pour Homme is pleasantly intoxicating in its own right: opens with an effervescent fruity note (that I would never have identified as blackcurrant) paired with a subtle anise (reminds me of watered absinth), wonderfully different to a more traditional citrus or bergamot overture, and evolves to become a wonderfully creamy ambery vanilla with a soft spicy aspect. I own both versions but the original is just smooooooothe from beginning to end, whereas the newer version, whilst still fantastic, does open up with the anise note being a bit spiky but then calms down and purrs along, just like it’s older brother. The sillage and longevity are quite moderate, but I assure you that every one close enought will notify you when wearing this masterpiece. Starts heavy like Dior Fahrenheit, not pleasant, but quickly goes to heavy vanilla base with black currant reaching out and stinging your nostrils.

There have been rumors, but this truly is a classic that IMO should not go ignored if you're into bolder, more classical styles of mens perfumery. I still have a factory sealed strong old version that I may be willing to part with but it's not going to be cheap.

However in England I found it is not very welcome as the natives go around opening doors and holding their nose saying you smell like a Indian takeaway. Opium Pour Homme is an interesting scent, rather different from the majority of current mainstream designer offerings.

I was first introduced to (real) opium in my 20s at university - it's a black tarry substance that when heated expands and changes colour to a reddish brown, at which point it can be smoked. This is my all time favourite scent and I have a 1997 Sanofi bottle and a couple of 2007 Gucci era bottles, really upset when I heard it was discontinued. It was Opium, he even brought me the empty bottle with box, thats how much i wanted to smell the remains.
