They got it together by the end but it was still shocking to see everyone care more about the rivalry than two people who were in love. There is sex but it is more glossed over and fades to grey (not black) and lacks details of a more adult book. I felt like she had more commitment and dedication to their relationship, while Wes was just: there. They confided in each other about the ways of the world, about the issues they faced, and I think if they had been any different in their characters their roles, they never would’ve shared it.

One conversation with 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐞 (H) her brother’s rival makes her forget about the decades long rivalry between their two towns. The storyline didn’t need pages of intimacy being described as the character building was so good throughout, it was clear what was happening but easily brushed over. One glimpse of her viridian eyes makes me forget about the decades-long rivalry between our two towns. It’d be over after I say a few choice words to his cowardly ass and maybe dump a drink or two on his head. Just saying, if my boyfriend kissed a girl in front of me because he refused to listen and decided to believe the worst of me?

Meanwhile he shares the details of his father’s infidelity with her, and form a relationship despite the odds being against them. I absolutely had the time of my life reading this because it reminded me of the Wattpad stories I’d read during math class lmao. I don't read a lot of YA anymore and there were a lot of situations in this book that reminded me why I don't, but despite that, I liked Wes and Maeve's relationship and there was a lot of cuteness.Anyways, I wouldn’t have had as much problems with the aforementioned things if this book was under a different genre, but it’s a YA, very pg book. Like the heroine's twin-brother, who really expected her life to revolve around HIS high-school football career and not her happiness. There was a healthy balance between all three storylines that successfully showed how each was vital to the other. She bites her lower lip, and we’re close enough I can see the enticing pink retreat from the indentations her teeth are making. What particularly peeved me that for all the intensity that the two opposing towns rivalry was depicted as - it only took a public loud drunken break-up, a heated apology, and a begrudging acceptance from Maeve's friends, to see that their rivalry was indeed petty, and that they truly were better off as friends and finding a balance between the two opposing sides.
