What I really like about this book as well is each chapter then lists the opposite of how a partner should behave and how you should be treated. It places a lot of abuse survivors' issues into context and highlights warning behaviours so you can protect yourself in the future.

When she started her programme her group was comprised of women whose abusers had been arrested and char ged by her . The first step in escaping an abusive situation is realising that you're not alone and it's not your fault. Pat Craven describes the abuser or Dominator as one person who changes through various characters as they exhibit different forms of control. Fortunately the book was not damaged but in my opinion the envelope used wasn't fit for purpose and appeared to be the cheapest one they could get away with using.I can honestly say that without reading that book (9 times no less), I don't think that I would be here today relaxed in my own home with my children that I love so much. So whilst it's all collected in one handy book, if you're identity includes any kind of marginalised group, you may be better off looking elsewhere for help. The Survivor's Handbook from the charity Women's Aid is free and provides information for women on a wide range of issues, such as housing, money, helping your children, and your legal rights. There wasn't really much Earth-shatteringly useful I got from this book that I haven't found in other, less exclusionary resources. Once you have read it everything makes total sense and you see life, people and abusers in a total different perspective.

it's understandable the main audience it was aimed at however that's why personal opinions can taint such books. The Bully – He uses intimidation to control his partner by: shouting, glaring, sulking, driving too fast and firing questions at her without giving her a chance to answer.
