Description

The WMA (World Medical Association) recently added ‘fairness’ to its International Code of Medical Ethics, thanks partly to Prof Gillon’s lobbying on behalf of the BMA.

It is a short story set in Victorian England and is perfect for 'stories with a historical setting' unit in literacy. Access training material, receive guidance, share best practices whilst actively interacting with other users. But this can be a bit misleading if it leads us to see the outcomes which need to be equalised as access to material goods, income or attainment regardless of merit. Afreximbank objected to the Plan on the grounds of fairness and provided to the debtor an alternative valuation report claiming that it was, in fact, in-the-money.

The illustrations in the story are coloured as well as black and white which supports and elucidates the storyline. This was done in Re Hong Kong Airlines Ltd, for example, which (at [48-50]) described the test for fairness as “ well settled” and “ part of the sanction process”. The young women on the Rotor represent a very new, hedonistic ideal of femininity: one which has lasted - they would not look out of place in a glossy magazine today. Your effectiveness, efficiency, patient safety, productivity as a team, these are all linked to people being able to contribute to the best of their abilities,’ says Prof Banfield.

The story is about a homeless orphan named Jackson who unknowingly embarks on an adventure after meeting a black dog who has a mysterious key around his neck. Introduce the question of scope (the range of people you consider in decision-making), and things become more complex still. But let’s also be ready to accept, wherever possible, that if there are very good reasons for doing x and y, and x and y are morally incompatible, that we may need to allow people to use their informed discretion and moral judgement in that instance. These are important and unresolved questions, and until further legislative guidance is given, the Court is arguably left to deliberate on the parameters of its own power. Medicine today can feel very unfair – for that Sussex registrar, for patients on waiting lists, for an overstretched, underpaid workforce. As is the case with Part 26 schemes, the court will always have absolute discretion over whether to sanction a restructuring plan. While posted in Belgium he met Vivien Alcock, then an ambulance driver, who would go on to become his second wife (in 1948) and a well-known children's author.
