About this deal

A device is given to Kat to communicate with Lock and its fair to say that she has major issues with the whole prospect of the pilot. Daring and original, heartbreaking and heart-stopping, this study of what it means to be human is destined to not only be a big success, but a classic crime novel of our times. It staggers me that this is a debut, the author has such a talent for writing and I’m so sorry for your loss. Now I don't normally listen to the hype but the premise of the book sounded very intriguing; an Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity teaming up with a seasoned DCS to review cold cases sounds like science fiction but I've been to see ABBA Voyage 3 times in the past few months and seen how technology is evolving so in my mind "anything is possible".

The plot was so intriguing and the characters are very interesting, I do hope there is more to come with Kat.During their meeting, McLeish informs her that he wants her to lead a pilot group working with AIDEs (Artificially Intelligent Detecting Entities) to solve cold cases. I estimate In the Blink of an Eye is set in roughly five years time, give or take, so aside from the presence of Locke there’s little futuristic technical advancements to get your head around, and everything relating to AIDE was dumbed down to my level of almost zero knowledge. I don't really do sci-fi either but I found the concept of using nearly sentient AI to assist with detective work to be utterly fascinating. This has to be a strong contender for crime debut of the year - sharp, perceptive writing and a brilliant new take on the detective duo' T.

As Kat and Lock piece together what has happened to Tyrone and Will, the edginess increases so that the reader has a sickening sensation that they will not be the last two young men to vanish. An ingenious police procedural with a clever twist, a delightful cast of characters paired with witty banter and relatable humour, intriguing cold case investigations - neatly sums this compelling and highly entertaining debut. The pilot scheme will start with cold cases; people who have disappeared over the years, with no leads. Kat has a major issue with anything technical and isn't particularly happy about having to team up with AI Lock. But, there’s a catch – she’s also to be partnered with AIDE Locke – an Artificially Intelligent Detecting Entity a. Such an original concept and so brilliantly executed, but also a story to make you think, and one that throws up unexpected questions about life, grief, loss, and the human mind .

Because it looked like a human – and not only that, a handsome one – and add in the fact that it mirrored human body language, mannerisms, and facial expressions. A detective mystery with an AI element added to it, I wasn't sure how I felt about LOCK at the beginning, but I really loved the human vs AI interaction in the cases. This story explores what it could be like for the police force to work with AI (artifical intelligence).Kat finds the only one who believes in her turns out to be Lock, and he is instrumental in helping her solve the cold cases that have become active investigations. I am not responsible for the republishing of the content found on this blog on other Web sites or media without my permission. The conflict inherent in Kat and Lock’s different approaches to investigation, and how each affects the case, is fascinating, with the strengths and weaknesses of both methods fairly illustrated. After losing her husband to cancer in 2019 when she was just forty-nine, she started writing In the Blink of an Eye, her debut crime novel, which explores learning to live with loss and what it means to be human. I loved the AI-angle and it was so well executed, shining light on dilemmas with AI in a easy to grasp way where you saw the pitfalls at the same time as the potential for AI.
