About this deal

Displeased with Tonka's handling of the Master System, Sega reacquired the marketing and distribution rights to the Master System for the United States. These young people deserve a space which is engaging and inspiring, where they can feel a sense of adventure, exploration and surprise!

Though the distributor of the console had changed, the Master System continued to perform poorly in the market. This is where life skills are learnt, where personalities are sculpted, and I’m pretty darn sure that these arguments helped to form a massive part of my character, and I for one, am not one bit sorry about that. Quick overview: The Master System II was released in 1990 (only in Europe and the Americas, as Sega had given up on the console in Asia by then), a redesign of the Sega Master System to make it cheaper to manufacture. The unused expansion port is missing, and the reset button was changed over to a much larger pause function one.

Compared to the base NES, the Master System has four times as much system memory, eight times as much video memory, and a higher CPU clock rate. The Master System version came late in the system’s life, and in fact is a South American only TecToy release.By 1990, the Master System was the best-selling console in Europe, though the NES was beginning to have a fast-growing user base in the UK. Well, I don’t have a lot of Masters System to compare, but I do have an internet connection, where I can see that SMS Power has a scan of the American Master System 2 board.

The Master System is essentially a rebadged Sega Mark III and so shares the majority of the same traits as Sega's earlier console. The Master System also has gore if you enter a code, although it lacks some of the finishing moves (including the spiked pit) and it lacks the number of buttons to make a fighting game truly playable, but GOD DAMN IT. Coming after the Mega Drive version, it was a completely different game, designed to cater to the Master System’s hardware. Due to the continued release of new variants in Brazil, the Master System is considered by many video gaming publications to be the longest lived gaming console in video games history, a title it took from the Atari 2600. Problems arose from Nintendo's licensing practices with third-party developers, whereby Nintendo required that games for the Famicom not be published on other consoles.

It is a rebranding of the Sega Mark III intended for western markets, which in turn was a successor to the SG-1000 and SG-1000 II. A pair of 3D glasses, the SegaScope 3-D, were created for games such as Space Harrier 3D, [33] although Mark III users need an additional converter to use them.
