About this deal

Charting the story of the civil rights movement through one woman's struggle, Meridian is a powerful meditation on community, womanhood and self-discovery from the Pulitzer-prize winning author of The Color Purple . Rebellion, he argued—the act of one who says no, who says, “There is a limit beyond which you shall not go”—brought the idea “We are” into the world. I rate this book with some of the finest books I have ever read and I have always been an avid reader, so many, many fine books have gone through my hands and into my mind. The inclusion of Lynne as a character and her rape by Tommy Odder was an interesting wrench to throw in the mix. Truman adalah seorang kulit hitam yang juga tidak 'mengenali dirinya sendiri' dan tidak tahu keinginan hatinya, meski penampilan menunjukkan sebaliknya.

Meridian does her best to adjust to college life, having left her son behind after getting pregnant in high school, but wanting to pursue a greater life for herself. It is often dark and depressing especially when some characters, particularly Meridian, seem to throw away their opportunities or act rather foolishly, so if you want to read a light or happy novel, this isn't for you. The story follows her life into the 1970s through a relationship that ultimately fails, and her continued efforts to support the movement. Meridian, the protagonist, is the most interesting, an attempt to make real in contemporary terms the notion of holiness and commitment. Upon getting pregnant out of wedlock in Meridian's teenage years she is expelled from school and forced to give up her education.Like Walker once was, Meridian is set on a path to greater self-realization and endures the hardships of firmly and irrevocably establishing her identity amid the chaos of social upheaval, sexual alienation, and people who are not always approving or supportive of either the woman or the cause. Later, Truman becomes involved with a white woman, Lynne Rabinowitz, who is also active in the Civil Rights struggle, though perhaps for the wrong reasons. Anlatımı bir nebze sevme ve güçlü bulmuş olsam da karakterlere bir türlü ısınamamam kitabı sevemememe yol açtı. In my own novel, "Colors of the Wheel" I explore contemporary challenges of race, and novels like Meridian that reflect with such authenticity on the civil rights movement confirm that much has changed, and too much hasn't.

Misery kept me from believing that all was well under the sun, and the sun taught me that history wasn’t everything. There was no flow or progression to the narrative, dialogue was scarce and—if it were an essay—the thesis lacked a focused conviction. From this one extremely flawed, pseudo-scientific rationale with a strong economic motivator that one "race" was better than another, the Europeans and Americans enslaved Africans, and later African-Americans.
