About this deal

I started reading this book in bed, looking forward to unwinding and tiring out my eyes for a good nights kip, however, within pages I was rigid, on edge and terrified for the safety of main character, Violet. e. at one point characters, aged 13-15, share a bottle of wine and The World Does Not End), as is the fact that while the book takes an optimistic tack, it doesn't necessarily promise that Everything Will Be Just Fine, Always. Jacqueline has won the prestigious Smarties Prize and the Children's Book Award for DOUBLE ACT, which was also highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The arrival of Jasmine, a new girl at school who immediately befriends Violet, seemed like it might change Violet's life for the better and allow her to break free of Will's spell. It is fascination and possible sexual awakening at first sight (nothing comes of it, then again this was published as children's lit in the early 2000s), and the two become instant friends. Violet is a fan of Casper Dream (yeah, totally not a pseudonym)'s fairy books, which she is embarrassed by because she thinks she is too old for them (she's thirteen). I couldn't work out whether there was something more sinister being implied in his strange behaviour towards Violet or whether it was just typical big brother stuff. Will gives Violet a note to tell her to look out her window at midnight and she sees her fairies hanging from the garden tree, repaired by Will.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. But I think that boy is a little bit of a psychopath, because of all the nasty things he was doing to Violet all this time.

But throughout young Violet's story, Will remains her number one person, when he torments her for fun. He has produced over sixty of his own titles, including much-loved favourites Ketchup on Your Cornflakes and Shark in the Park. THE ILLUSTRATED MUM was chosen as British Children's Book of the Year in 1999 and was winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Award 2000. Nick Sharratt has created illustrations for over two hundred and fifty books during his illustrious career. Item despatched quickly and as described, but damaged in transit due to plastic wrap packaging being inadequate protection.Dora Reads is the book blog of a Bookish Rebel, supporting the Diversity Movement, bringing you Queer views and mental health advocacy, slipping in a lot of non-bookish content, and spreading reading to the goddamn world! Violet has an obsession with fairies created by her favourite author Casper Dreams, struggles to make friends and is emotionally abused by her brother—who just happens to be adopted and uses that as his excuse for his behaviour. Seen all over the country and in the West End, this resourceful dramatisation of Jacqueline Wilson's Midnight is suitable for young actors as well as young audiences. Wilson's subjects are always close at heart, her characters lovably flawed, but her endings are reassuringly uplifting. I decided to read this book because of it's title, Midnight,(It all seemed rather exciting and mysterious), the author, Jacqueline Wilson and its fantastic blurb.
