Like many Scottish distilleries, Ledaig’s history is also one of mothballing and reopening, falling into some trouble in 1837 and closing completely for 41 years. Expect rich notes of walnuts, cherries and creamy toffee from this this 18 Year Old cask strength bottling.

This 12 year old Ledaig Distillery Exclusive release was finished in Amarone wine casks for one year, creating a sweet but smoky dram with sweet vanilla custard and honey notes balanced with sharp tannins and a distinct saline note intertwined with a peppery smoke. Small batch distilled at our distillery on Mull, we combine hand selected botanicals with a splash of spirit from the Tobermory whisky stills to create three deliciously unique gins. My recent review on the Cadenhead’s Tomatin 12 really blew the doors off in realising how magical that independent bottler is. Hand selected and hand filled by the team at Tobermory Distillery, this cask strength, 25 year old single malt is part of our Warehouse 1 Collection. The 10 has plenty of fans and scored highly in the online whisky realm, becoming Ralfy’s whisky of the year 2022. Another beauty of a Ledaig, this time from The Vnatge Malt Company as part of their Cooper's Choice Range. The 10-year-old Ledaig heavily-peated single malt whisky from Tobermory Distillery was introduced in 2007 and like many single malt whisky fans we were knocked out when we first tried it.

Ledaig whiskies therefore have a smokey and earthy character, as well as fruity and vanilla undertones.

Made with heavily peated barley before being matured in ex-bourbon casks, and finished in hand-selected Spanish Rioja casks, this single malt contains powerful flavours of smoke, spice, grape and sweet berries, with a lingering saltiness.

I dont want to say I am disappointed with this whisky, but it has now definitely less smoke and it is coloured. Sweet briny smokiness with distinct island character and playful notes that hint at mild antiseptic, creosote, wax polish, mint chocolate and floral seaside aromas. Rich, fruity sherried smokiness, lovely balance of phenols, seaweed and light creosote, dried chilli flakes, spicy black pepper with hints of sweet oakiness. It has all the subtle elements of an Islay whisky with the smoke and brine you come to expect, but also a complexity that makes it so well balanced with that hint of lemon.Packed full of ripe berries, bitter chocolate, toasted oak and a sprinkling of cinnamon, this is not one to miss! From the pour and letting it sit in the glass for a bit, the soft campfire smoke and briny element slowly fills the room.
