About this deal

Every place and character the two emotions journey through is loaded with smart and playfully creative details based on human psychology.

Obviously, she's going to grow up, and I shouldn't hold her back, but at the same time, as an adult, I know she has the rest of her life to be a grown-up, and childhood is increasingly short, so it should be embraced. The effect to the emotions is worse, as Sadness takes hold, and then her and Joy end up lost in Riley's memories, leaving Anger, Disgust and Fear in control. The discs beautifully simple animated menus, offering options to watch the film, select scenes, adjust the setup and check out the extras.promises to forever change the way people think about the way people think, delivering creative fireworks grounded by a wonderfully relatable family story. What this movie does is update that old idea in the context of very American psychobabble therapy culture, where children are worshipped and overprotected, and where group-hug-itis is seen as the cure for everything.

And though Kaling, Hader and Black all are well cast for their own characters and the emotions the represent, Smith as Sadness is just perfect, giving Poehler an excellent foil and nailing the concept of sadness in a way that manages to not feel excessive. Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) all help keep the young girl moving forward but when her family moves from Minnesota to San Fransisco it throws everyone for a loop and soon Joy and Sadness find themselves lost in her system and trying to find their way back. Our Dads, The Filmmakers" (7:25) is a mini-documentary featuring Docter's daughter Elie and composer Michael Giacchino daughter Gracie, with the two longtime friends following their fathers as they work on the movie. She's put to the test when Riley's parents up and move to San Francisco, uprooting her life and upsetting her good time, especially when her parents don't have the best of times following the move.

Emotions and feelings are now seen as the pinnacle of human existence, rather than achievements or 'doing'. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. They hit upon many unique and touching aspects of one’s thought process and conflicting emotions that one might wonder if this subject matter is perhaps too deep for kids. It’s a story that harkens back to Pixar’s method of storytelling for Toy Story, taking such a relatable aspect of childhood and blowing it up not just for humor, but for all the humanity it can exploit. Watch the outtakes, etc, with the credits, and see if you don't think they are better than the feature movie!
