About this deal

Sadly, it is not … and, worse yet, it becomes a tedious and annoying affair that can be quite irritating to sit through. It literally was just me hearing noises from every single direction and having a hard time localizing the sounds to a specific channel. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR QUERIES REGARDING ANY OF OUR ITEMS, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US ON 01685 383810 (MONDAY-SATURDAY 9 am-5 pm) AND WE WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HELP. Though not very extensive, the mid-range is shockingly sharp and detailed, and an endless array of ambient effects fills the screen with crystal clarity. When released around the world on home video, laserdiscs and early DVD, it was almost exclusively fullscreen.

Rarely scene specific, it takes quite some time before the trio begin to loosen-up and have some fun. For some reason, the special features are included on a "Limited Edition Bonus DVD" and not on the Blu-ray. The pendulum swinging crazily in the grandfather clock now features a mightier and more “mechanised” clang as heaves itself from side to side. Atmos heights and surrounds channels are literally teeming with all sorts of ambient energy, and I had this weird sensation of not being able to detect in cracks in the location shifts. Take for example the priest on the record describing how there were 3 copies of the Necromicon made (1 that Ash has in the series, the 2nd found in the cabin in the 2013, and the 3rd is what we run across here in L.on the subject, but why couldn’t we have had John Carpenter, Wes Craven (the in-jokery would then have been complete), Bill Lustig, Tom Savini or David Cronenberg, or any of a couple of dozen other more interesting and articulate genre filmmakers cropping up to dissect the film? Evil Dead’ (1980) is Raimi’s low-budget gore-fest about a group of American teenage yuppies on holiday in a remote cabin in the Tennessee mountains. This goes all in with sonic atmosphere, just smothering the listening in an omni-directional assault that never once lets go.

Contrast is nicely balanced, though not very impressive, and whites are cleanly and brightly rendered. Which one to get comes down to personal taste (see further down for more on the fullscreen/widescreen debate). It serves as proof that atmosphere and mood can yield a truly fun and frightening experience, not just blood and guts alone. From personal horror stories about injuries and makeup to the hardships of working on a film with a low budget and small crew, there isn't a single thing that isn't covered. As an added bonus, the filmmakers have decided, in their immense wisdom and genius, to give fans a choice between two aspect ratios.

Whether this release is up-scaled, or simply the quality limits of the 16mm film on which it was shot being reached, is unknown. The easter egg; 'Book Of The Dead The Other Pages' is a single unedited shot showing of Ash thumbing through each page the Book Of The Dead.

At about 17m 10s, you see a zooming close-up shot of the book of the dead, which then should cut to lightning striking a tree, then an exterior shot of the cabin at night, but the Elite version cuts straight from the book, to the shot of the cabin, leaving out the lightning. It's been a while since I've heard a TrueHD track (everything seems to be DTS these days), and I was immediately reminded of the wide and spacious sound TrueHD is capable of delivering. But, thankfully the series will live on, as we have word that the complete series will be making its way to Blu-ray and DVD this October 22nd in the UK. Look at the sequence when Ash contemplates dismembering his girlfriend with a chainsaw to see the collaborative efforts come together in terrific, fluid synchronicity. But it's to the credit of the editing process, which the Coen brothers assisted in, that Raimi's unique and imaginative visual style is turned into an organized and intelligible 85-minutes of brutal, blood-soaked lunacy.Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. Additionally there is also quite a difference in picture framing between this, and all the other versions. However, on the flip-side of the aspect coin, shots such as the Cheryl-eye-view from under the trapdoor just a little while later on seems to reveal a greater depth, and the composition can often be just as comfortable and dynamic-looking in the blown-up image. This release builds on the 2008 Evil Dead - The Treasures Collection DVD listed above, with a range of upgraded and new material spread over two discs. Two major things separate this version from every other DVD; its colour timing, and its picture framing.

Other than the commentary - which is brilliant, of course - and frequent footage and stills from the film's production, he is completely absent. Grindhouse Releasing and Fathom Events will celebrate the 40th anniversary with an exclusive nationwide screening introduced by star Bruce Campbell. The best part is listening to thoughts about the movie's lasting influence and its continued admiration by modern horror fanatics. The score is electrifyingly clean and crisp, and remarkably well-detailed right down to instrumental level. For this Blu-ray edition, Anchor Bay debuts the favorite 80s horror flick with a wealth of supplements on a separate DVD disc.

At the Drive-In" (12 min) — This was filmed at a special Chicago screening where the cast gives away free DVD copies to a fanatical crowd. And things only seem to get better with this Dolby TrueHD soundtrack which, as with the video, is also the best the film has ever sounded. The best way, really, to describe 'The Evil Dead' and the entire series which followed (' The Evil Dead II,' ' Army of Darkness') is as a hysterical and ferocious funhouse of the macabre and the gorily grotesque.
