It could be fixed readily at the manufacturing level, I think, but that begs the question of units already produced. If you've read this morning's Guitar Hero World Tour review, then you already know how much we like the new RedOctane drums - but with the game now on sale across the pond, a few early adopters are reporting problems.

I mounted another bit of foamcoare to the apex of the spring, added a spot of tape to prevent shorts across the spring, and mounted the assembly below the piezo element.

A bit of adjustment on the springy bit and a slightly thinner chunk of foamcore and we're fully rocking now. I considered the performance of my yellow cymbal to be ideal: easily registered both hard and soft hits in the center and readily picked up hits to the far edges as light hits.

While we'll leave detailed in-game response praise and criticism to our full Guitar Hero World Tour review, we can say that there are several physical aspects of the drum kit's design that make its responsiveness less-than-optimal. and the rest of the characters speak in mumbles, an unknown language similar to characters in The Sims or communicate through Pantomime. In Guitar Hero 5 and later games if a swell is dropped it can be played again by re-hitting the corresponding drum(s). But physical imperfections aside, the core aspects of the Guitar Hero kit's design and the design of its competitors ultimately come down to a matter of preference, which is almost always exclusively aligned one way or another.

Thanks again for the advice, still leaning towards the Logitech kit for portability, but not sure about the quality of the kick pedal or whether or not it allows for custom made kick triggers or units like the roland kd-7 or kd-8. Great tutorial to start off and then the songs went through different genres and difficulties, from 'ok, this isn't too bad' to 'how the hell am I supposed to do this! With anything that is designed to be a toy the major issues you will have is 1 latency, 2 lack of velocity sensitivity. If you want a picture-perfect drum set that will never over hit and plays like the real thing, you're going to have to go with the ION Drum Set.

The drumkit is top-notch in build quality, very sturdy in any height it allows you to, and the pads work very well.

The cymbals however require some adjustment - in GHWT they work reasonably well, you can hit them at an angle and the hits register 99% of the time. Its pads were a lot nicer IMHO than the Rock Band kit (a bit quieter, far better rebound), but the cymbals were silly and didn't feel terribly responsive. As you can see, I'm leaning towards the Logitech kit, but it would be great to hear someone who owns one of these kits or has experience with routing MIDI from them on a Mac before I make the plunge. Just looking for advice from anyone who might have experience either just playing these kits with the game, or with regards to how they handle MIDI (wirelessly or wired). net is owned by Gamer Network Limited, a ReedPop company and subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions Limited.
