We had one of those sets with the two-dimensional players for everyday use, but the really nice set with the detailed hockey figures was saved for the holidays.

The set includes 2 players, 2 goalies, 2 nets, 4 pucks, 2 launchers, 4 ice hockey sticks, 1 sticker sheet with numbers, 3 sticker sheets with NHL team logos, and of course, the arena.

Many of the pieces could be choking hazards so this would not be appropriate for the under 3 set and I think the manual dexterity needed to move the players and control the goalie would actually make this best for children over 4 to avoid frustration. The skaters got 19, because I liked to wear 19 when I played, and 36, because I think Mats Zuccarello kinda looks like a Playmobil figure. This nhl arena would make a wonderful gift for one of my grandsons, he’s 8 and is an avid hockey player. If you know anything about Playmobil, you already know that they pride themselves on being hyper-detailed.

Each player is equipped wih all the necessities to engage in battle on ice and comes with a spring-loaded base that allows them to actually launch the puck at the goals! I think that this toy will actually have longevity in this household and it is most definitely a keeper. I played it with my family and friends, with the extra special nice tabletop game with the cool figures saved for the holidays. But never fear, for Playmobil has even included two goalies in the play set that attach to a rig in the goal. While that’s an overwhelmingly good thing, that means some of their bigger sets have many small pieces, and can take a while to assemble. And while we may have picked up this tradition for the holidays, I think we’ll keep it going all year round.
