Description

I already miss the beautifully descriptive, emotion-evoking writing and the vivid pictures of Ireland and London that Montefiore provides throughout the book.

When I had finally read the first two books in the series, this third installment was much more enjoyable. I was excited to receive a free copy of this book from Librarything and the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. All story lines are tidily resolved, characters get what they deserve and things end up the way they've always needed to end, if a bit easily at that. The Secret of the Irish Castle by Santa Montefiore is a sweeping saga about family, fortunes lost and won, secrets, and love.Ten-year-old Floriana is captivated by the beauty of the magnificent Tuscan villa just outside her small village, and dreams of living there someday.

After generations of lies, mistakes, secrets and missteps, the Deverills and O'Learys will have to dig deep for forgiveness. With lives intertwined, hearts broken, secrets unravelled, and battles won and lost, the final, enthralling chapter of the Deverill family is packed with high drama, heartbreaking emotion and Montefiore’s trademark insight and sensitivity. FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES TOP FIVE, MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING AUTHOR - be swept away by the Deverill Chronicles. Even though the book did what I feared and wrapped some things up easier and neater than I would like, some of the ending parts were satisfying and I think I'm going to have a bit of a book hangover from this trilogy. Kitty is terribly distraught by Bridie's ownership of the family home and the two formerly close friends remain completely estranged. This is the third book in the Deverill Chronicles and while it can be read as a standalone novel, I highly recommend reading the other books first.

Set in the ruggedly wild countryside of West Cork, Ireland, in the early part of the twentieth century, Songs of Love and War is an epic tale of three very different women all born in the year 1900: Kitty Deverill, the flame-haired Anglo-Irish daughter of the castle, Bridie Doyle, the daughter of the cook and Celia Deverill, Kitty's flamboyant Engl. And this time his heart belongs elsewhere…This summer discover the dramatic conclusion to the bestselling Deverill Chronicles. But just as she begins to feel things are finally going her way, her flamboyant husband Cesare has other ideas. If the first book wasn't so jam packed and juicy then I would be giving this a five star but as in most cases, the first just had that extra something special to it.

Santa Montefiore's involving and dramatic novel The Butterfly Box opens in Vina del Mar, Chile, in the sweltering Summer of 1982. She has very little time for her 17-year-old daughter, Anastasia, away at boarding school, and even less time for her ageing mother. There's less of an Irish feel to this story than to the previous two, perhaps because it relies so much less on important events of Irish history and more on the individual characters and their feelings. She's getting married to a man she doesn't love, her job is depressing and her mother is getting on her nerves. The Last Secret of the Deverills is the third and last novel in Santa Montefiore's Deverill trilogy. She's come to Ireland with her old nanny and is looking for her birth mother after her younger sister's spiteful revelation that Martha was adopted.
