About this deal

Hollywood Revue Of 1929", gibt es leider nur auf einer DVD-R, von Warner-Brothers-Archive und wartet noch auf ein gepresstes Medium. One of the main issues with second, third and older generation prints is that each time a copy is made, ‘noise’, a persistent hiss and sometimes crackle, is amplified each time. There are so many other little tit-bits he drops in, Tracy Tolzmann’s suggestion to watch the films with the commentaries on is good advice indeed!

My big complaint is that while these films look better than they have before (and I owned them on 8mm), they have been overly scrubbed of grain. The films look better than anyone has seen since the ’20s and ’30s, and the extra features are great. Other times, Laurel and Hardy mine humor from their attempts to be helpful, but find that the more good they try to do, the more chaotic a situation becomes. And though they may no longer be with us, their vast catalogue of hilarity continues to make its mark, being released in varying formats and enhanced for a modern audience. The source used for the new video is a “full aperture” frame size, used in prints for theaters which employed the sound-on-disc method.

They all have their fair share of hiss, some more than others, but there are no instances of crackle or dropouts. They could slap, kick, and hit with the best of them, but a wiggle of Ollie’s tie followed by Stan fiddling with his hat or crying into the camera, along with extended reaction shots from both that always reminded you that you were watching something just a bit more special.

Very few of the silent films of Laurel and Hardy's negatives survive, and the available elements scattered throughout the world are always mediocre or unwatchable. Fresh to the Blu-ray format, Laurel and Hardy: The Definitive Restorations gathers together 21 shorts and 2 features in the best possible quality with a bevy of bonus features. What is thick DNR I'm guessing non technical people like me wouldn't ever notice if that's even a bad thing? It is faultless, some of these films are nearly a hundred years old and look like they’ve been made last year. Bann split the hosting duties and over the course of over eight hours cover the backgrounds of various supporting actors and the personal and professional history of Laurel and Hardy, even devoting ample time to breaking down numerous gags and the duo’s comic personae and performative ticks. Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are one of the most famous and well-known comedy teams to come out of Hal Roach Studios, starting in the silent era and segued to even more success as they easily made the transition to sound.

Skretvedt appears again in three interviews from 1981, which he gave with three of Laurel and Hardy’s co-workers: Anita Garvin, Joe Rock, and Roy Seawright. There are so many of their 'full length films', as well as their many shorts, which are wonderful, it becomes impossible to say-One of Their Best', just because there are so many I can say that of.Incidentally, if you can’t wait to see That’s That (which is utterly fascinating for an anorak like me) you can access a blog item on it here https://beauchumps. We should consider ourselves very lucky at the amount of Laurel and Hardy that is available to us in so many different mediums these days; DVD, Blu-Ray; NetFlix; YouTube et al.
