About this deal

At the end of each chapter is a QR code that goes to online material on Rozman's chess course platform, Chessly.

About the Author: Levy Rozman, more popularly known as GothamChess, is an online chess streamer who earned the International Master title in 2018. This book compiles all of Levy's most useful beginner and intermediate advice into one easy to understand and easy to reference handbook. Rozman's new book explores chess from all angles and contains up-to-date information on the latest opening theory as well as basic chess strategy that will help pre-teen chess players develop a solid foundation in the principles of chess - from openings to middle game to end game. I was completely new to chess before reading this book — that is, I didn’t even know how the pieces moved on the board. The primary content should be in the book, and any online content should be something that augments that, rather than as a substitute of more pages.

Rozman is a great teacher, I really liked the tone he went for with this: it's clear, easy to understand and follow and supportive. Overall the book is very well done, it has some of the characteristic humor of Levy and some fun facts sprinkled in throughout the book. Whether you want to become a recreational chess player or are training to be a Grandmaster, How to Win at Chess is the perfect interactive introduction to the world of chess! This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees.I think that the self-described rating of up to 1200 ELO is very reasonable, and it's a perfectly good book for recreational players who want some easy-to-follow tips. The book is far clearer than most I've read that tend to go off down several paths and you don't know where one part ends and the next begins.

If you know a young chess player who loves watching Twitch and YouTube chess videos, this would be a perfect gift. In this way, we can project ourselves as the learner, and questions we may have (or should have) are made explicit in the interactive discourse. While the book is excellent for beginners, and visually guides the reader through different situations on the board, I felt that the book was written to someone slightly below my level.

For instance, Chapter 10 (Intermediate Openings) covers the London System, Vienna System, and Alapin Sicilian, but each too briefly to be useful unless you already understood the opening. It would also be a good choice for more formal instruction, for chess clubs' libraries, gaming clubs, and similar. However, I think for intermediate chess players and up who want something meatier, it might not be the best choice. The differentiator is the QR codes linking to videos, puzzles, and lessons to allow people to get more content. Recently I came across Levy on YouTube and started really enjoyed his commentary on games because he explains things so well and with a great sense of fun and humor.Any fan of the author or player rated below 1200 will definitely make no wrong choice by spending a bit of time with this! Bought the book in November and my understanding of the game has increased a lot because of this book. GothamChess and his youtube videos were the perfect blend of humor and instruction, mixing top level play with garbage wood pushers like myself. Nevertheless he seems to take great personal delight in living in a hovel in New York with his dog and simple furnishings that would suggest that his entire world revolves around chess and chess alone.
