About this deal

That's why I looked into it because I thought there must be a genetic link," she says. "If I've got three autistic kids, surely there's got to be something there and they were just very similar to me. Turns out we're all autistic. The best thing about my diagnosis is that, you know, when I was telling my children about being autistic, I said, 'Look, mummy is autistic too. It's fine. I go to work. I drive a car...' I'm trying to socialise more now. I'm trying different foods. And yeah, I'm oversensitive. And I have little challenges. But yeah, we're all doing great. We support each other." Christine is the proud mum of autistic children Felicity, Leo and Penelope. She was also diagnosed with the condition as an adult and hopes the book will give a voice to autistic people and show that "everyone is different and that's just absolutely fine." Christine McGuinness was supported as she made a nervous admission moments into her Loose Women appearance.

Prior to her diagnosis, she often failed to understand how other people made normal conversations appear so simple. Autism, she says, "is simply a different way of thinking and seeing the world, a different way of hearing, listening, communicating and socialising. My brain is different from others. But knowing what brain you’ve got helps you navigate differently." Speaking about her book, Christine said: "I wanted children to understand children like mine. I've had a lot of parents asking me, how to we introduce our children to autistic children? You know, what would you like us to say?She added: "It's a real child-friendly way for children to learn about autistic children."

In 1542 Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, abolished slavery by decree in his Leyes Nuevas, although slavery persisted in Spain’s colonies in Puerto Rica and Cuba (until 1873 and 1886); in 1952 Agatha Christie’s murder-mystery The Mousetrap opened at the Ambassadors Theatre, London, starring Richard Attenborough and his wife Sheila Sim; in 1963 the funeral of the assassinated president John F Kennedy took place, with more than 800,000 people lining the streets to watch the procession through Washington DC; in 2016 Fidel Castro died, aged 90: he led Cuba from the 1959 revolution to 2008, defeated the CIA-sponsored Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961 and presided over the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 ( obituary, November 26, 2016).Fronting high-profile documentaries and embarking on a writing career are all part of Christine’s deliberate post-diagnosis policy to step outside her comfort zone. But connections non-autistic people take for granted remain incredibly challenging. Her new film, Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism, which airs on Wednesday (March 15), follows the BBC One documentary Paddy and Christine McGuinness: Our Family and Autism, screened in November 2021, in which they met other parents, experts and people on the autism spectrum. The programme also followed Christine's diagnosis. She then came on to sharing a clip of inside her home, filming a long line of dolls and teddies belonging to her kids - twins Leo and Penelope and youngest child Felicity, before showing her very own book the yellowy-gold cover featured Christine's name and a small picture of her with the title, Amazing Me, Amazing You. Model and author Christine McGuinness, who was diagnosed with autism in 2021 aged 33, has released her first children's book. Titled Amazing Me, Amazing You, she hopes it will be the perfect way for parents or carers to introduce the subject of neurodiversity to any child. I’m trying hard to widen my circle of friends but it’s still very small because socialising is not something that comes naturally to me,” she explains.
