I love Lavazza’s coffee, it’s not always easy to find their full range of coffee pods on sale in shops – but online is easier. I certainly prefer their coffee to N*****sso’s.

There is the super-fast espresso, espresso lungo, long coffee (90ml) and the free -flow function if you prefer more water in your morning brew. After inserting my capsule, I opted for the short option, and within 30 seconds, had a smooth-tasting espresso. I did notice a little splatter while filtering but fortunately, this wasn’t the case for my following cups. What’s more, it’s incredibly quiet, which is always a bonus for making multiple espressos throughout the day. Considering I’m more of a milky-coffee fan, I was seriously impressed by the quality of the delicious crema. What’s more, the Lavazza Idola saves energy by automatically switching off after being inactive for 9 minutes too! And since the removable parts are all dishwasher–safe, you wont need to spend time cleaning up after enjoying a relaxing coffee. On that point, the Idola alerts you when descaling is necessary, which is usually about every two months in an average water hardness area. The size of the Jolie is also a bit of a double-edged sword. Although its minimalist design means it doesn’t dominate your kitchen space, you will find you’ll have to empty the capsule bin more frequently than you would with larger machines. I also found that, on occasion, lifting the lever would not cause the capsule to drop down into the bin immediately and that I would need to give it an encouraging prod to loosen it up (this is an issue that has affected a number of the Lavazza machines we’ve tested). The latter, the Free Dose, is a very good new feature. Basically, when pressed it delivers boiling hot water, about a mugful, although you can stop the flow at any time by pressing the button again. This will send a lot of hot water through, so do make sure you have something large to catch the water when it comes out.
