Description

The Night Angel is a series of fantasy books written by an American author of science fiction, literature, fiction and fantasy books Brent Weeks. The trilogy follows the adventures of Azoth (later known as Kyla Stern) as he ravages the underground as a guild rat to becoming an assassin with magical talent also known as the ultimate wetboy but then Azoth tries to leave all this behind finally becoming the Night Angel, the avatar of retribution.

There are a few authors, Joe Abercrombie included, whose books I've read in large part because everything they've said outside of their novels (on blogs, etc.) has been hilarious and witty and they don't take themselves too seriously. Brent Weeks (or Sussex Months...yes I still think it's funny) is one of those authors. The combination of his stupidity, arrogance, incompetence, and petulance make you really hate his character.Night Angel is the first Celebrity Big Brother contestant to compete on The Masked Singer. She was followed by Orca. Inspired by a remarkable true story, Night Angels explores the risks brave souls took and the love and friendship they built and lost while fighting against incalculable evil. I will say, there were a bunch of things at the end of the original trilogy that didn't quite make sense, and I don't think it would have been possible to write a Midcyru novel without a little retconning, so I don't mind that. In the original series it kept fluctuating how powerful magic and the Talent was supposed to be, and here it's overall pretty buffed, for example. Which is fine and I'm not complaining about it. He did some work to build the universe, and then 50% of the damn book is spent on a magic cruise ship, so we don't even see any of it (???). We get some other returning characters, but they're pretty much miniscule cameos and we don't see them actually do much, which is a big disappointment when the original trilogy had POV from many of them. After 10 years of waiting for a sequel and re-reading the entire series I was so ready to dive straight into this and be swallowed whole. What I got was a lot of first person rambling nonsense, a Kylar who has become absolutely useless, and preachy to boot, and a weird structure that has nothing of the thrilling, drag you along the story feel.

And where Kylar seemed invincible in the last series, all Kylar does in this series is screw up and talk about how everyone is so much better than he is and how he would lose the fight (especially against these blue mages). It’s not like he singlehandedly changed the tide of battles in the last series… Green Magi are healers. Dorian Ursuul trained with the Green Magi in an attempt to use healing magic to possibly save him from the inevitable madness that afflicts all prophets, achieving the rank of Hoth'Salar (Brother of Healing). I feel like every aspect that I loved about the Night Angel trilogy is nonexistent in this book. There characters from the last series are nonexistent, Kylar is whiny, there’s no real plot/goal, there’s no awesome battles/fights and there is no suspense or tension other than Kylar’s constant sexual tension between every girl he sees.

Young tech entrepreneur and “rule breaker” Rose, as Buchanan calls her, is staying with her aunt Emma (Simone Kessell) and uncle Henry (William MacDonald) after falling on hard times. But things get worse when assassins come for her relatives and she barely escapes alive. After calling a mysterious phone number at her aunt and uncle’s urging, Rose uncovers some dark truths about her family as she and her newfound protector Peter are forced to run for their lives. Originally given to Arikus (Eric according to the latest released novella "Perfect Shadow") Daadrul. Once bonded, the silver ka'kari makes the user impervious to blades and other metals. The Globe of Edges in Cenaria was thought to be the silver ka'kari, but was a forgery. This could be the item that Garoth Ursuul wanted but is never made specific. The current location of the silver ka'kari remains unknown. Night Angel became the first U.S. female winner of 'The Masked Singer'. She was followed by LeAnn Rimes as Sun, Jewel as Queen of Hearts, Teyana Taylor as Firefly, Amber Riley as Harp and Bishop Briggs as Medusa. That's why assassins have targets. Wetboys have deaders. Why do we call them deaders? Because when we take a contract, the rest of their short lives is a formality." - Durzo This book is far different to any other Night Angel book, not just the fact that it's near twice as long as the others but it revolves around a magical oceans 11 themed heist. Where Kylar and his skills are pushed to the brink and beyond...then beyond even that. We are introduced to some great characters and reintroduced to some even better familiar characters. However the locations we visit are fascinating peek into the rest of Midcyru.
