The Scarlet & Violet era introduced Pokémon Tool cards as a distinct class of Trainer separate from Item cards. As such starting in this standard format, any Pokémon tool cards from the Sword and Shield era receive errata and are no longer considered item cards in play. Yasuharu Shimizu was the defending champion but was eligible for the Masters Division this year. He didn't make it to Day Two.

Posts on the account contain a short context on what the illustration depicts, as well as the card name and illustrator credit. Both a digital image of the artwork and a digital image of the card are included. Occasionally, new cards are revealed via the new posts. The account has featured illustrations from as early as Generation I, publishing digital images that were previously unavailable publicly. With Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet releasing later this year, we will reevaluate the structure of the 2023 VGC circuit. After the 2022 World Championships, there will be no Video Game Championship Series events until January 2023, when all competitive events will be played in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Liko debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All: Part One. She enrolled in the Indigo Academy at the Kanto region, where she formed a friendship with her roommate Ann and received her partner Pokémon, a Sprigatito. Though Liko can be timid and uncertain of her abilities, especially in dangerous situations, she has shown a brave side when supported by those around her, people and Pokémon alike, as seen in episodes such as The Pendant That Starts It All: Part Two and HZ016, after Sprigatito, and later Roy and Dot, encouraged her to stand tall against the Explorers, and Found You, Fuecoco!, when she reminded Roy and herself about what they as Trainers could do with Pokémon by their side. Liko also has a calm disposition and is very approachable, as shown in HZ021, when she was able to approach a shy and seclusive Hatenna she met near the Galar Mine, as it led them to bond and the Calm Pokémon becoming one of her Pokémon partners thanks to her calm emotions. After finding out that Dot is Nidothing in HZ016, Liko keeps the knowledge a secret as she respects her reasons for not wanting to let others know about her identity. Liko even decided to help Dot keep her secret, as seen in HZ017, when she tried to stop Roy from asking her for help so he won't disturb her from making a video and finding out that she was Nidothing. Teams qualified for the Pokémon UNITE Championships by having the most Championship Points within their regional zone or winning their Regional Finals. Regional zones had the following number of invitations: four from North America, Europe, and Japan; three from Latin America - North, Asia Pacific - East, and Asia Pacific - West; and two from Brazil, Korea, India, Latin America - South, and Oceania. Entrants could build a team of six from specific groups of then-legal cards/Pokémon. Registering a team also required making a guess to a tiebreaker question. Most Championship Series events, including all Regional and International Championships, use the Standard format. Cards with the regulation mark are rotated out. Cards with a , , or later regulation mark remain legal.
