Bella put all this much more succinctly and sweetly than I have managed: "(A) sweet, rhyming story about loosing something (a hat) as a child and being reconnected with it as an adult."(sic)

Before Malcolm and I had our three sons we used to go busking together and I would write special songs for each country; the best one was in Italian about pasta.

Rosie's Hat is a story of the adventures of a hat after it gets blown away from Rosie and ends up in some unusual situations. Shaw-Williams, Hannah (7 November 2019). "Doctor Sleep: Rose The Hat & Shine Vampires Explained". Screen Rant . Retrieved 3 February 2020.

I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. Mary and I would argue about which of us would marry him). In the classroom this book can be used to teach knowledge retrieval skills, there are plenty of opportunities for discussion and questions due to the amount of detail in this book. Themes which arise are associated with loss and retrieval.See? Mia Thermopolis doesn't want to be a princess. And neither does Rosie. In fact, Rosie grows up to become a firefighter. In other words, a fireman - a job generally seen as, well, for men. Basically as far as you could get from a princess in frilly dress and high heels. I love this. I love love love seeing a children's book in which a girl doesn't conform to a massive heap of stereotypes about what she should be. Rosie being a firefighter is a fairly crucial part of the plot. One blustery day, her hat gets blown away from her. She doesn't manage to find it that day and her hat, presumed lost for good, ends up being used as all kinds of things** as it floats around, waiting for her to grow up, become a firefighter, and be called to rescue a cat who is caught up the tree where it eventually lands. Its journey has come full circle and, in a sense, so has Rosie's as she has gone from being that little girl in a little red coat to, if I remember correctly, getting married and having a child of her own.*** Davids, Brian (8 November 2019). " 'Doctor Sleep': Rebecca Ferguson on After-Hours Fun on 'The Shining' Set". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved 2 February 2021.

Rosie's Hat is by Julia Donaldson, the author of The Gruffalo, but it is quite different. It has become a favourite in our house - I have read it more times than I would care to admit! I really enjoy writing verse, even though it can be fiendishly difficult. I used to memorise poems as a child and it means a lot to me when parents tell me their child can recite one of my books. Lachenal, Jessica (9 November 2019). "How Old is Rose the Hat in 'Doctor Sleep'?". Bustle . Retrieved 3 February 2020. Whilst the younger children carry out self-initiated activities, you can work with the older children (perhaps ages 5-7 years) and teach a science topic from their curriculum. This could include a practical investigation to develop children’s science knowledge as well as their enquiry skills. You might find that some of the younger children want to join in, and why not if they are able to?!There are also lots of themes to explore. Rosie is heartbroken when she loses the hat, but one day she recovers it, and in the meantime they have both had many separate adventures (the hat is a 'co-star' of the book - we follow it's story, as well as Rosie's, as it is caught by a dog, then a fisherman, then used to make sandcastles and so on). For younger children, it is an opportunity to talk about what happens to both of the 'main characters', and also to explore what it means to lose something, to come to terms with it's loss and then to recover it - and to understand that life has a way of working out in ways that initially don't make sense. My real breakthrough was THE GRUFFALO, again illustrated by Axel. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

Write a description of Rosie. What does she look like? How does she behave? Write another description of the fox.

I also continued to write “grown-up” songs and perform them in folk clubs and on the radio, and have recently released two CDs of these songs. Rose the Hat is a fictional character created by American writer Stephen King. She is the primary antagonist in his 2013 novel Doctor Sleep and in the 2019 film of the same name. She is portrayed by Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson. [1] Character arc [ edit ] This book is about a little girl called Rosie who loses her hat due to strong winds. As a result the hat experiences quite an adventure as time passes. The hat meets a dog who takes it through water, where a fisherman catches it he isn't too amused as i am sure he would much prefer to catch a fish. Little boys use the hat to build sand castles and then later as a Frisbee. Depending on whether you have any adult support, at some stage you may want to join the younger children for a period (so that you can ‘play, observe & ask’) and ask your teaching assistant to supervise the older children’s activity.
