Over the course of its 50+ levels, Wario Land 2 impresses with great variety in its boss battles and a surprisingly complex web of hidden exits, secret paths, and alternate endings.

Moves around the right of the arena, firing large cannonballs, which almost immediately split into three smaller cannonballs, at Mario. These also absorb missiles, taking several hits before being dispersed (for one hundred points), making it harder to shoot Pagosu. Once the warship is destroyed, Tatanga and the boss room vanish. Super Mario Maker 2: The Superball Flower is an obtainable power-up for the Super Mario Bros. style. Using it replaces the stage music with a rearrangement of the Super Mario Land Ground Theme, and the "level clear" and "lose a life" themes with their Super Mario Land counterparts. [12] In the United Kingdom, it was the top-selling Game Boy game for three months in 1994, from May to July. [13] [14] [15] Super Mario Land is the fifth entry in the Super Mario series [2] and the first installment in the titular Super Mario Land series, released as a launch title for the Game Boy in 1989 as the first handheld title in the series. Unlike previous installments, the game takes place in Sarasaland rather than the Mushroom Kingdom, and introduces Princess Daisy, a new character serving as the damsel-in-distress in place of Princess Peach. Tatanga, a malevolent alien with powers of hypnosis, serves as both the main antagonist and final boss. Unlike previous games, Super Mario Land was not developed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo's EAD division, but by Nintendo R&D1, with Gunpei Yokoi as guiding producer.

It is the first handheld console Mario game and the first to be made without Mario creator and Yokoi protégé Shigeru Miyamoto. Accordingly, the development team shrunk gameplay elements for the device and used some elements inconsistently from the series. Super Mario Land was expected to showcase the console until Nintendo of America bundled Tetris. The game launched alongside the Game Boy first in Japan in April 1989, and later worldwide. Super Mario Land was rereleased for the Nintendo 3DS via Virtual Console in 2011, which features some presentation tweaks.
