These drones are deployed along with the Ghostkeel. After deployed, they count and act as a separate unit. In fact, I had to explore other model genres, e.g., gunpla, Gundam, for inspiring purple color schemes that I could borrow for a Tau paint job. Utilising anti-gravitic Devilfish troop carriers, Pathfinder Teams range far ahead of the rest of the Hunter Cadre in search of enemy forces. The T'au [15] (or Tau) are a young race of technologically-oriented beings from the Eastern Fringe and the dominant species of the Tau Empire. [1a] With the rise of the Necrons and the arriving of other invading factions, the Tau forces and Kroot allies could not sit idly by with their thriving empire in danger. The Tau defend their recently acquired world of Kronus from the invaders, including the planet's original owners, the Imperial Guard. The Tau Forces on Kronus are led by Shas'o Kais. It has also been suggested by several Imperial observers that Tau blood is bluish-purple, explaining that the blood contains trace amounts of cobalt, rather than iron as common in humans. [5] [Note 1] Admittedly, I’ve painted Tau as part of painting commissions in the past and enjoyed the challenge of working with large surface areas, e.g., armor and panel lines, interspersed with fine mechanical details.

I’ve considered red for a few of my armies, excluding the obvious Blood Angels Space Marine Chapter I painted a few years ago. Red and blue glowy bits work well together. Drone Controller Pathfinders are essential to any team running heavy drone support. Their Drone Scout ability lets them deploy a single drone outside of your drop zone (and the opponent’s), and their Control Drone unique action lets you spend 1 AP to either immediately activate a drone and cause it to lose some of its AI rules (letting it take cover, getting +1 APL, and letting it move objectives), or alternatively perform a free Dash or Shoot action if you’ve already activated the drone.The use of purple as the main surface color may also come off as hard to read on a tabletop, concealing armored shapes and forms within joints and metallic parts. For my approach with purple, I’ve often used purple as a major secondary color along with neutral tones, e.g., bone or neutral grays. Green is a fantastic color for Tau models. If done well, you can pull of some really amazing pieces that work well as a group on the tabletop. I’m a particular fan of military style paint jobs, especially the tones you would associate with the Army. Do you recall the Euro tank camo schemes of the Cold War? Dark, muted green hues and earth tones formed the basic utilitarian look of armored vehicles. The primitive T'au were a plains-dwelling race. In their prehistory, they lived as nomadic tribes on the desert plains, hunting and gathering their food. Some of these tribes eventually expanded into other environments. The T'au of the mountains grew flaps of skin and light bones that allowed them to float over the deserts on thermal drafts. The T'au of the river valleys developed agriculture and metallurgy, forming the first true settlements. The development of settlements led to the need of trade, and wandering T'au began to negotiate and mediate between the disparate tribes, traveling up and down rivers in crude barges. The T'au that remained on the plains became strong and skillful hunters, larger and stronger than most other T'au. [10b]
