About this deal

This isn't a cheap milk frother, and I can see a few benefits over this one vs some of the cheaper milk frothers, in particular the wide range of temperature settings, and the hot chocolate mode which allows it to whip up hot chocolate for you via pieces of your favourite chocolate and milk. We're not just talking tens of thousands, we're getting into the hundreds of thousands, wow! Strange saying that “oh my giddy aunt”, my Brother-in-Law is called Ant (no he's not one half of Ant & Dec), and whenever I say that phrase he does a little dance. I'm not sure if he does that to confirm his giddiness, or if it's just a coincidence & he was about to do that anyway? If you have a Dolce Gusto or Tassimo coffee machine, you may think you don't need a milk frother because these machines come with milk pods, but actually, if you have one of these pod machines, buying a milk frother is a great way to improve the quality of your milkies and to save money. Frothing is when you fold in or incorporate air into your milk to create an airier texture," said Paulo Asi, Director of Training at the Seattle Barista Academy. "Steaming milk can mean you froth it too, but it usually means heating it up, basically like you’re microwaving the milk."

You can use any of the manual milk frothers, above, for cold milk froth for milk shakes and other cold drinks, and many of the electric milk frothers have the ability to produce cold milk froth, too. You wouldn't want to use a steam wand to froth milk for milk shakes, unless you want hot milkshake, and each to their own – I suppose if it's a chocolate flavoured hot milk shake it would be a hot chocolate ;-). Can you froth non-dairy milk? You don’t need an espresso maker to make a great flat white at home! You can simply heat and froth the milk, which makes it nearly as good. You won’t get the same microfoam texture as a steamer, so it’s not quite what you’d expect from a coffee shop. We recommend reading How to Froth Milk before you start. Here are three options for the home barista for frothing milk, one of which you probably already have on hand: Both types of textures can be made wetter or drier, though, simply by steaming or agitating for a longer or shorter period and creating more, or less bubbles. It's no surprise that Andrew James has a milk frother, I don't know who this Andrew James fella is, but he has a LOT of stuff! ;-).Microfoam is basically thousands or millions of very small bubbles that form through the steaming process. It looks like velvety wet paint. You actually can't even see the bubbles. If you're trying to make microfoam at home, be sure to heat up the milk first, then run the milk frother. It won’t work if it’s not heated up." — Paulo Asi, Director of Training at the Seattle Barista Academy What’s the difference between frothed and steamed milk? So you're looking for the best milk frother, eh? Well, I've got good news for you, because this post is all about the best milk frothers, and I've written it, which means it's worth reading ;-). Whether you're wanting stiff foam for old school cappuccino, “silky milky” microfoam for velvety flat whites, or anywhere in between, I think you'll find this best milk frothers post to be enlightening.

If the Souvia sounds great but way out of your (price) league there are other great performing milk frothers that you don’t need a bank loan to buy! Compared to other milk frothers, it’s rather big and cumbersome, with a grand capacity to prep 250ml of frothed milk at once. Making it ideal for large families or anyone who simply has a lot of coffee and tea breaks during the day! Best of all, it’s easy to clean, and also comes in a variety of eye-catching colours to suit your kitchen style. Alongside its coffee-making abilities, we also test the performance of any other features a machine may have. For this list, we took a particular look at the milk frothers on the featured machines, noting things such as their ease of use, whether they are manual or automatic, their frothing speed and the range of textures they can produce. We also consider how consistent each milk frother is, to ensure it produces similar results every time. We tested each milk frother on how easy it was to operate, pour from, clean and how much noise it made while working. One other option is a capsule machine. Some high-end models add a milk carafe for one-touch cappuccinos and so forth, while others add a steam wand to provide manual or semi-automatic milk frothing so that you can feel more like a barista in your own kitchen. Cheaper models, however, effectively bolt on an aftermarket milk frother so that you can pour an espresso, then add frothed milk yourself. If you already have a basic capsule machine, then buying a milk frother is a cheap, easy upgrade. Manual or automatic milk frother? If you're just getting into the home barista thing, including steaming milk via the steam wand on your coffee machine, grabbing a temp control milk jug is a good idea. Sure, you can get a separate thermometer instead, but it's just something else to have to buy, clean, and find each time you want to make a cappuccino or latte. This is more of a standard spout milk jug, similar to the one above but without the thermometer, and available in three different sizes. If you don't make a selection re the size, you'll get the 350ml one. With regard to size, I think most people would probably find 500ml to be about normal, so if you're unsure, if you like bigger milkies then I'd go for the 600ml version, if you mainly drink 6-8 ounce flat whites for example, then the 350ml or 400ml version will be fine.
