About this deal

Who better to set themselves that very challenge than Q Acoustics itself then? Which is exactly what it has done, adding a letter ‘i’ at the end of the name, as a flourish. Mission LX-2 MK II (300€) looks like a good deal, but are they fatiguing? I heard them with my amp briefly and they were lively and realistic. They made an impression on me, but didn't get a chance to listen to them for more than 20min at low to medium volumes. With their newly developed surrounds, the bass units are even more accurate and faster to respond. The coated paper woofer cone is light, rigid, and helps give the 3020i’s their deep, punchy sound quality. The tweeter units are decoupled from the rest of the cabinet, meaning that the treble isn’t affected by vibration from the bass unit. With power and purity of sound at their heart, the 3020i’s are amongst the most dynamic sounding speakers in their class. I instantly recognised the familiar Q Acoustics sound: a rich, warm character with a surprising level of dynamism and agility considering the weighty delivery. I wasn’t disappointed.

Compared to the 3020i, the 3030i just feels like “more.” More bass, more dynamics, a more realistic soundstage. They sound bigger than you’d expect from what is still a fairly compact speaker. This illusion is aided visually by the fact the speakers have a small visual footprint, opting for a deeper cabinet rather than a tall and wide one. Please note that our couriers will try to deliver as arranged but we will not be held responsible for any costs incurred because of non-delivery or factors introduced by third-parties. This service is based upon best endeavour and is not guaranteed. Taking the new stand (also shelf and wall-mounted) speakers out of the box, what hits you about the 3020i speakers is just how different they are in design and look. Frankly, the family resemblance is receding fast. The original 3020 design looked neat, tidy and efficient in terms of its lines and curves. The 3020i speakers look completely detached from that original design direction.Cabinet size has been increased: the 3020i is 25% deeper than its predecessor. That promises a more extended and powerful bass response. These may be ‘bookshelf’ speakers, but they won’t have any problems shifting large volumes of air. Overall, I think the 3030i put up an admirable performance for the price. The direct sound is a bit jagged, but the overall shape of the curve shows a mostly neutral sound, with a few minor anomalies. There appears to be a resonance at about 1,200 Hz, but otherwise the speaker seems to control such anomalies pretty well with the budget cabinet. The Early Reflections curve averages various angles to estimate the very first bounces off your walls, floor, and ceiling to reach your ears. These reflections, which are mostly in the front hemisphere, significantly affect timbre too. We want the ER curve to tilt down but otherwise be pretty similar to the Listening Window response. This curve also best predicts the final in-room response. And it’s this balance that makes the 3020i incredibly hard to wrongfoot. It doesn’t matter what you feed them with – noise, opera, electronica, jazz, classical – everything sounds good. Even bad recordings are entirely listenable.

The Q-Acoustics team is very clear that by focusing on acoustic engineering and excellent design, it will have a chance to succeed by producing products that surpass competitors at the same price. This clear goal has enabled Q Acoustics to establish good results in the past decades. The 3020i’s crossover point is set to 2,400Hz, which means that most of the sounds heard are mainly processed by the mid-woofer, but the sound is still clear, indicating that the mid-woofer performs quite well.Coming from a fusion of both evolutionary and revolutionary thinking, the 3000i Series benefits from state-of-the-art speaker technology, as well as improvements to the cabinet construction. Every 3000i Series model is an outstanding, genuine Hi-Fi loudspeaker with models that can also be combined to deliver a fantastic home cinema sound. As with most speakers, it’s the vertical portion that seems to be the speaker’s biggest weakness, so make sure to align these at the proper height, with the tweeter at ear level. The trimmings are a little more luxurious. The separate front baffle has been integrated for a ‘unibody’ design. The speaker terminals go straight through the MDF cabinet instead of a terminal panel. There’s a touch of chrome in the logo and around the drivers, too. Nothing says ‘premium’ like chrome.
