About this deal

I find the X11 too small for anything other than splitting logs of around 8 inches in diameter that you can split one-handed. I prefer a larger splitting axe and a separate hatchet rather than an intermediate-sized axe like the X11. It then became clear to me that there were different types of axes; some for splitting wood, some for chopping down trees, some for lightweight work, like making kindling, or chopping off branches.

While many axes have their weight more evenly distributed, the X25 contains most of its weight in the head. It takes a slight adjustment, but you’ll soon find it comfortable in hand. Lifting the axe and bringing it down with explosive force is easier than most axe varieties. Fiskars X25 vs. X27 – What’s the difference? The head is long, with 2 inches of standard blade shape before the cheeks flare out. This allows it to penetrate before forcing the wood apart. But even when it doesn’t split on the first strike, the wedge-shaped bit pops out pretty easily. Firstly, the most visible difference between these two models is the length of them. Fiskars X27 is a 36 inches long splitting axe, where the older sibling X25 has a length of 28 inches. The Fiskars X25 Splitting Axe is an impressive axe capable of most jobs you throw at it. Logs over 12″ in diameter can often be split in a single blow, thanks to an aggressive blade profile.

The Fiskars X25 has the full weight splitting head, but a shorter 28″ handle. So you might find it easier to put your full strength behind the swing with confidence. While more affordable than premium brands, the reduced cost is reflected in the lower quality finish. I’m not convinced by the hybrid handle for long-term durability. I haven’t seen or heard of any issues yet (they’re only a couple of years old). The main reason I don’t own an N12 is the price. It looks like you have entered a shoe store to buy a canvas where you see the products of ‘Nike’ and ‘Reebok’ are placed together. So how would you segregate the best from these two? From a few viewpoints, most of the parts of these two handles will look identical. But have an individual look at both these handle designs to have a better idea on it-Usually I own something for a while before I consider reviewing. Made up my mind sooner than usual on this. Sad to see Craftsman Tools which are nearly commercial grade go to China. People buying these cheap made in China tools at Home Depot or Sears are hurting us all and especially the people who need commercial grade tools or the 20 pc of America that is unemployed. It is unethical to buy tools made in communist china or india as they use slave labor and you're taking a job away from an American/Canadian and china/india rigs it currency to give its manufacturers the ability to drive USA quality vendors out of business. Buy local. It is 'greener' for this politically correct generation of MTV bra....er kids to buy local.
