About this deal

I went into a serious mental decline and stopped paying the mortgage on the flat I shared with my then girlfriend, who left me. Not long after several failed suicide attempts, my belongings were repossessed. After battling with and overcoming heroin addiction, Henry directed a film: Mad Dogs and Englishmen, and later became involved in music cinematography.

HC: Firstly, I don’t have an ego. I really do believe I’m an alright bloke. The only difference between me and other bikers is how much drivel I can talk. I don’t write scripts for my shows, I just say what I see. For the adventurous, Henry rides out on some of his favourite roads, both in the UK and further afield, taking the opportunity to test different bits of machinery in different environments whilst imploring the viewer to get off their sofa and explore the great outdoors at the weekend. Sir Henry Cole FRSA (15 July 1808 – 18 April 1882) was a British civil servant and inventor who facilitated many innovations in commerce and education in the 19th century in the United Kingdom. Cole is credited with devising the concept of sending greetings cards at Christmas time, introducing the world's first commercial Christmas card in 1843. Beauty can be found anywhere,’ he says. ‘Don’t allow yourself to be told where it can be found by following trends or going against your own creative eye or taste. Discover for yourself what appeals to you. It was only by doing this I found my own niche aesthetic, and many years later it’s what I’m renowned for. Earnshaw, Iris (November 2003). As host of The Motorbike Show and World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides, Henry Cole is one of the most recognisable faces in British biking. Ollie Rooke caught up with the star to talk bikes and a return to Route 66 The Gladstone family is on my mother’s side, and he was completely raving. When we went to visit him at this rambling house up in Liverpool, he came out into the garden where I was playing and said, ‘Henry, do you want to see my shed?’ In this shed there were God-knows how many British bikes. Currently he’s the presenter of World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides (Travel Channel Worldwide), The Motorbike Show (ITV4 and Discovery Networks), Shed and Buried (ITV and Travel Channel Worldwide), The Motorbike Show Special: Steve McQueen’s Motorcycles, Find It, Fix It, Flog It (Channel 4) and more recently Find It, Fix It, Drive If you’re in a car, you’re comforted by your airbag and all that kind of stuff. If you’re cold you put the heating on, if you’re hungry you have a wine gum, if you fart you wind the window down. But you’re still the spectator. You’re looking out at that windscreen at what’s going on. As a motorcyclist you are taking part in that scenery, you are part of that scenery. And also you are an individual on a motorbike.

Henry Cole Junk & Disorderly

Cole went to the 11th Quinquennial Paris Exhibition in 1849 and saw that there wasn’t an international exhibition. He saw that the RSA’s planned exhibitions for 1850 and 1851 could be turned into a larger international show. With Queen Victoria’s help, he set up the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 in 1850 to run the new show, with Prince Albert as its president. I pushed it out in neutral, got it started somehow, and my mate said, ‘Oh I think you pull that lever in and push down with that pedal.’ I said, ‘course you do,’ released the clutch, and went straight into a hedge. That was the start of my biking career. Henry Cole, 55, is best known for presenting The Motorbike Show on ITV4, The World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides on the Travel Channel, Shed and Buried on ITV and Find It, Fix It, Flog It on Channel 4.

I feel so privileged that I can do what I do. I would be doing this whether I’m being paid or not, but I do have to do a job to earn some money, obviously. You are looking after your needs rather than your wants, and if you look after your needs then you have contentment. That’s me on a bike. I also love that biking is classless and the route to entry is minimal. You can still buy bikes for dirt cheap and ride to Monaco on it. You can’t do that with cars. That’s freedom.

I can't think of anywhere I'd less like to be than in a car. When you're driving a car, you're not taking part, you're a spectator. You're in a can; if it's cold you turn up the heating, if you're hungry you have a wine gum. You might be looking at what's going on, but you're definitely not a part of it. Meanwhile, he makes remarkable earnings as the owner of Gladstone Motorcycles. He owns a lavish house in Cotswolds, England. Henry Cole Wife & Children Henry’s father was in the military. Moreover, it is known that he is the youngest child of his parents.HC: When I started riding properly, I realised it was just as good in reality as it was in theory. Motorcycling to me means a few things. One is individuality. Two is rebellion. It’s still to this day, no matter how small that flame may be burning inside you. And three, it’s genuinely about freedom. Hewitt, Sam (1 July 2020). "A brief chat with… Henry Cole - The Classic Motorcycle" . Retrieved 20 July 2021. HC: I made a movie in 1995 called Mad Dogs and Englishmen that bombed. It was a total disaster. I was with the head of Channel 5 around that time having lunch and he said to me, ‘well you’re screwed, aren’t you?’ I had 20 staff and nothing to do. It’s a searingly honest account. “I felt I had a story to tell of people who have lost their way in life and didn’t really know what they were rebelling against but demanded in some way, however small, to be an individual. Motorcycling is an intrinsic part of that ethos.” Henry Cole and his drug addiction:
