About this deal

With all construction projects, unexpected delays can sometimes occur, We had planned to close this road earlier in the month, however due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to postpone our work at this location. We apologise for any inconvenience this change to our plans may have caused. WB diversion (revised) leaves the A180 at Stallingborough junction and goes through Stallingborough, Keelby, Great Limber, Kirmington and Melton Ross to re-join the A180/ M180 at Barnetby (junction 5). There are four miles of single carriageway on this section of the A66 in need of improving to dual carriageway to improve safety, ease congestion and provide better access for local communities. While the road is relatively straight, it rises and falls in areas, causing visibility issues and requiring HGVs (HGVs) to accelerate to navigate steep inclines. Multiple access points present serious safety issues where vehicles attempt to join the single lane A66 at high speeds. Additionally, drivers are put in a vulnerable position when attempting to slow down and leave the A66, particularly when turning right. Benefits

Construct a new dual-carriageway underpass below the existing Kemplay Bank roundabout – enabling free-flowing traffic along the A66 and improving access to Penrith and the A6 The overall level of HGV and LGV traffic through the village will be reduced as British Gypsum and other businesses to the north of Kirkby Thore would use the new junction We’re resurfacing the slip road, replacing studs and road markings for safer and smoother journeys. We will work overnight under a full closure of the slip road between 8pm and 6am starting Monday 30 October and we aim to complete by Tuesday 7 November. The installation and upgrading of the traffic signals at M6 junction 40 and Kemplay Bank to control traffic movements and to create safer crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists. Relocate an existing footway, bus stop, signage and lighting columns onto the southern verge of Middleton Tyas Lane to accommodate the additional carriageway lane

We have changed some of our designs and consulted in local areas. You can find out more in our winter update Construction of a new vehicle turning area on the north side of the eastbound carriageway, and installation of a new a deceleration lane on the right side of the westbound carriageway to allow traffic to turn from west to eastbound

We'll be resurfacing the road, updating the road markings and replacing road studs working overnight when traffic counts are lower, to reduce the impact on road users. To minimise disruption, we’re carrying out the majority of the work with a lane one closure on the eastbound carriageway. Traffic lights and convoy, Access to and from properties within the closure on the westbound carriageway will be controlled by traffic management operatives. We are undertaking drainage and embankment work at Valley Farm, around three-and-a-half miles east of Stainmore, to help maintain safety for road users. This will manage the integrity of the embankment which protects the carriageway and farm access underpass at this point on the A66. Moor Lane will be realigned to connect to Moor Lane junction, allowing access to the new A66 and the old A66 o Access to and from properties within the closure on the westbound carriageway will be controlled by traffic management operatives.

I had a fantastic day on Wednesday, 11 October delivering STEM workshops to a cluster of schools in West Durham. The event was arranged by the careers facilitators at the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), as part of their role in the national Primary Pilot, “Start small, dream big”.

We’ll soon be carrying out essential maintenance work on the A1(M), junction 36 southbound slip road. We’ll be placing roadside signage at the road closure points two weeks ahead of these closure dates, to clearly signpost the diversion routes. To reduce the impact on road users, both the M62 and the A644 will remain open to traffic during this work; for the safety of road users and our workforce, 24/7 hard shoulder closures on both eastbound and westbound of the M62 will be in place. This is due to periods when temporary barriers will be in place. There is still a long way to go, with Phase 1 scheduled to see us working into 2025, and Phase 2 for a further three years after that, but this is a huge milestone. Typical working hours will be between 7.30am – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday and 8.00am – 2.00pm on a Saturday.

Based on 2015-2018 experience collected from UK insurance companies, published in CMI Working Paper 154, 2021. Widen the existing dual carriageway between M6 junction 40 and Kemplay Bank to three lanes in each direction We are mindful that this work may cause some delay and disruption. We’ve worked to minimise the impact on customers as much as we can. However, where possible, customers should plan for some delays. A second phase is currently being planned, with work scheduled to start in 2025, further connecting the pipeline on to Teesside at Long Newton.

With all construction projects, unexpected delays can sometimes occur. Please be assured that we’re working closely with our partners to do all we can to minimise any disruption for you and your community throughout the work. This is a 1.9-mile single carriageway section which is sandwiched between existing dual carriageway sections to the east and west. A key feature of this route is the current junction with the A67 which is currently only accessible to traffic to and from the west. We're replacing the parapets on the north and south bridges that carry the M62 over the A644 near Brighouse; we are doing this work to maintain safety as the current parapet barriers are nearing the end of their working life. Widen the route to dual carriageway between Penrith and Temple Sowerby on this section, providing more capacity. The scheme predominantly follows the old route. It would involve widening the old A66 to form one side of the new dual carriageway. The second carriageway would be constructed to the north of the existing route
