Description

Epoxy putty is an amazing sculpting material because of its ease of use and for its amazing durability. I personally love to use it for small integrate details on my sculptures or if I need a sculpture to be very durable. The extraordinary durability is one of the big advantages of epoxy putty over regular air dry clay.

Here is your guide to leaking pipe repair using Milliput Epoxy Putty. What is Milliput Epoxy Putty? Silver Grey is suitable for applications that do not involve extremely fine details. Slightly finer than Standard Milliput. Ideal for repairs to stone coloured garden ornaments. Typical Applications The ratio really depends on what you want to achieve - what works best for your application. I suggest experimenting with the amount, slowly adding more, until it behaves the way you want it to. And what about fixing pipes? Can Milliput epoxy putty be used to repair a leaking pipe? Regular readers of PipeRepair.co.uk should know the answer to that one as we can often be found extolling the virtues of epoxy putty when it comes to sorting leaks and bursts. The same is true of all putties in the Superfast range – Superfast Copper for copper and other non-ferrous pipes repair and Superfast Plastic for PVC plastic pipe repair.

Terracotta can be used on pots, ornaments and garden urns. Turquise Blue was released in 2019 to cater for woodturning, marbling and jewellery making. It will take any epoxy putty about 3 to 4 hours to cure and once it has cured fully it will be very hard. This is where epoxy putties specifically formulated for pipe repair have an advantage. Take Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty for example. Superfast Steel comes with a 5-10 minute work time, enabling rapid pipe repairs to be made.

Whereas Milliput is a general purpose putty, Superfast Steel is designed especially for the repair and bonding of steel and other ferrous metals. It will therefore provide a higher-quality repair than Milliput. It is also WRAS approved. In the putty state Milliput, like most chemicals in domestic use, may cause irritation to sensitive skins. When mixing the two components it is advisable to use rubber gloves or throw-away polythene gloves. When rubber gloves have been used wash them immediately after use, and whilst still on the hands, using running water. If the hands have been used for mixing or manipulating Milliput wash them immediately after use with toilet soap and warm water. First, you have to clean the surface of the epoxy sculpture from any dirt and dust by using some soapy water and a piece of cloth. Milliput is kind of annoying to sand if I am being honest. While it is quite easy to sand it I often have the problem, that I accidentally take off to much in one go. So it is actually too easy to sand.Liquid colourings, like enamel paints, oil paints, spirit based-dyes or pigments can also be used to colour Milliput, but liquids or pastes may be difficult to introduce into the putty, again small quantities should be used, to avoid creating a very wet mix that may be difficult to mix. After setting hard Milliput continues to cure and is fully cured after an elapse of time equal to the setting time at the same temperature. Once fully cured Milliput can be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sandpapered and painted. Milliput can be sandpapered and painted immediately after it has set. (it is advisable to wear eye protection during this process).

Once you are satisfied with your paint job simply let the paint dry and then finally apply a top coat to protect the paint from the sun, from scratches, and more. I like to use either a varnish or an acrylic sealer as a topcoat. Painting Milliput or any other epoxy putty is quite easy if you know what you are doing. I personally did a lot of things wrong, when I painted my first few epoxy putty sculptures which resulted in the paint chipping off, and in some cases, the paint even bubbled before simply peeling clean off of the sculpture. Then there is the cure time. Milliput is also designed for model makers, artists and other creative types who desire a putty which gives them more time to sculpt, carve and shape. Some putties, like Milliput, will be softened by water while still uncured, but that's more of a side effect of the composition than a feature. The epoxy component doesn't mix with water, it's the filler that's affected.Use the Milliput to form the roots and base of the tree trunk, you may or may not have much wire to cover at the base of the trunk as it will depend on how you’ve formed your tree armature. Milliput Epoxy Putty is a quite new crafting material compared to clay so it is natural, that people can´t really wrap their head around how it is actually working, how it actually hardens and how hard it will be after it is fully cured. So this is one of the biggest advantages of using Milliput Epoxy Putty over air-dry clay or other types of clay. It is insanely durable and resistant to the elements to a point, that you could theoretically make a water fountain out of it and it would work easily. Sanding Milliput Epoxy Putty Correctly
