We don’t see a lot of brands out there making plastic trombones, but that could be because it’s a relatively new development, and maybe because trombones aren't as popular as the trumpet. I also don’t imagine the demand is super high. After a few weeks of lessons and practice, I found that my embouchure was improving. That is, my lip muscles were adapting to the mouthpiece and I was playing recognisable notes rather than squeaks. Not to be confused with the sopranino trombone, the soprano trombone is another smaller trombone. This one is actually more commonly played by trumpet players, as it's in the same pitch as the trumpet. The next day I telephoned Ron, Katy’s former trombone teacher, and asked him if he would give me a lesson. If I did not do it immediately I would never have the confidence to start. I also asked him if he thought it would be too late for me to learn as I had just turned 55 years old. The reply was “It is never too late!” I am now 71 and all this is before the pBone was developed. Not all manufacturers use the same material to make parts on a plastic trombone. Smaller parts and moving parts are more fragile on the plastic trombone. You’ll want to handle it gently to be safe. Sound

It doesn’t make sense to go overbudget for such an affordable piece of gear. Don’t go into debt. Don’t spend money you don’t have. If you don’t have enough money right now, then save up for the instrument you want. What Are The Best Plastic Trombone Brands? This plastic trombone from pInstruments is a standard 500 bore pitched in Bb. It has a glass-fiber slide and both 6.5AL and 11C small shank mouthpieces. Its sound is low and rich and most closely mimics a brass trombone.

Go and try a few plastic trombones at the music store. Better yet, see if you can rent them for a week to get a sense of how they feel and sound. You should be able to get a better idea around what you like and what works for you. Lightweight instruments are great for children and students for obvious reasons. They are good for beginners of any age as well, as you can easily get over one of the main hurdles of learning to play the instrument, which is its weight. Ron finally persuaded me to take some exams as something to aim for, and at first, I reluctantly agreed. It certainly helped me to grow more confident and all the examiners were kind and appreciative of my efforts. Being older had definite advantages.

You can spend several hundred dollars on a plastic trombone. This might seem steep, but it’s nothing compared to spending a couple of thousand for a professional trombone. Plastic trombones are much easier to keep clean and scratch-free, which, if you’re still learning how to hold a trombone or play it, is an important consideration (avoiding damage means your instrument will last longer). The Vincent Bach, while plastic, is a quality instrument that will last for years and still manages to get a great sound. The cost of learning an instrument can add up, and so there’s something to consider is the considerably cheaper cost of plastic trombones.

All children should enjoy the benefits of playing music

Before deciding on which type of trombone to go for, here’s our list of the pros and cons of plastic trombones over brass ones. They’re Highly Durable But if you’re looking for a mini plastic trombone, you’d be hard pressed to find many other options. If you’re looking to get started as soon as possible, and don’t want to spend a lot of money on an instrument, this can be a good place to look. It comes with a mouthpiece that has a 22mm cup diameter. This size mouthpiece is usually better for bass sounds. In this case, it gives the mini trombone a richer sound than you’d expect. You could trade it out for a smaller mouthpiece if you choose. Buyers say they were pleasantly surprised by this instrument and even thought it was perfect for their kids. Some buyers, however, didn’t like the slide and even said the quality was mediocre.

Plastic trombones are great for children and beginners, but they’re also a good choice if you’re on a budget. They’re a lot more affordable than brass trombones, but not all of them are cheap.

As we covered earlier, a plastic trombone isn’t going to sound like a brass trombone no matter what. However, they can create a great sound for the price and material. Kids and beginners might find a bright hue more enticing. Other options include blue, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, and white, something that just isn’t possible with brass. Budget This suggests that you shouldn’t encounter too much trouble with any product on this list. Just don’t expect perfection. Moving up a step, the sopranino trombone is exceptionally rare and usually only found in trombone choirs. This instrument is so hard to find, in fact, that most Google searches will simply throw up pictures and examples of the soprano trombone instead! As one Reddit user wisely points out, this is a nigh-on mythical bit of kit. Soprano Trombone The trombone itself is green plastic. While the manufacturer didn’t make the slide with brass, it’s made of carbon fiber, so it moves smoothly. You won’t need lubrication to move the slide, improving your playing skills.

Using a metal mouthpiece will improve the sound of this instrument. While you can get by with a plastic instrument, consider upgrading the mouthpiece. Because plastic trombones are so light, you’ll want to bring them with you. The company includes a fabric carrying case to protect it during transport. Their trombone weighs less than half of a traditional instrument, coming in at 1.8 pounds. Again, you can’t spend this amount of money and hope to get a pro level instrument, but you can still get something that’s relatively pleasing to the ears. Getting something that weighs just as much as a brass instrument kind of defeats the purpose, although there probably aren’t any plastic products out there that come close. While these factors aren’t going to change a whole lot from instrument to instrument, they are still worth considering in the grand scheme of things, especially if you end up needing to find a replacement or upgrade in the future.if you’re looking at buying a plastic trombone, you’re most likely a beginner, so there are a few things you’ll want to look for. Using a plastic instrument helps you with your grip as you’re able to practice holding the instrument without the added weight of the brass. There can still be issues with durable material and certain components might be more vulnerable than others. One of the reasons you might be looking to buy a plastic trombone in the first place is because they are lightweight, compact and portable. This can even make the instrument easier to play than its brass counterparts. I eventually joined a local community junior wind band. Not junior by age but by experience. There were many adults in it either learning for the first time like me or trying out second or third instruments. I sat next to Emily, aged ten, who was way ahead of me, and who I relied upon to put me right. (She now plays professionally in a military band).
