Ronnie James Dio has and continues to influence the heavy metal movement. This cinema event will take fans on a big screen journey into the creative and personal life of this notable frontman.” During an appearance on this past Wednesday's (April 26) episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", Wendy Dio was asked if "Dio: Dreamers Never Die", the first-ever career-spanning documentary on the life and times of legendary metal icon Ronnie James Dio, will get a DVD and Blu-Ray release in the near future. Ronnie's widow and longtime manager responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Oh, yes, absolutely. That's in the works. In fact, I was just singing off on the credits today. And that will be out on Mercury through Universal in September. It comes out on Blu-ray and on DVD, and there's so much bonus stuff on it too; there's a whole bunch of bonus stuff that never made it to the film that will be in there. So I'm excited about that. Of course it's still on Showtime, but a lot of the people in Europe and stuff didn't get it at all unless they saw it when it was in theaters. So now it will go worldwide."

The definitive documentary on legendary metal icon Ronnie James Dio comes to movie theatres around the world for a two-day-only film event. DIO: Dreamers Never Die is fully authorized by the artist’s estate, was financed solely by BMG, was directed by Don Argott and Demian Fenton ( Framing John DeLorean, Believer, Last Days Here), produced by Don Argott and Sheena Joyce for 9.14 Pictures, and executive produced by Dio’s widow and longtime manager Wendy Dio for Niji Productions and Kathy Rivkin Daum for BMG. Wendy Dio previously ruled out a movie biopic like Bohemian Rhapsody and The Dirt, explaining to Metal Voice: "No, I don't wanna do a biopic. Nobody could play Ronnie, I don't think.”

Showcase and Showcase Cinema de Lux are committed to providing you with the ultimate film-going experience. We are excited to be partnering with BMG and Wendy Dio to present ‘DIO: Dreamers Never Die’ in cinemas worldwide,” said Kymberli Frueh, SVP for Programming and Content Acquisitions for Trafalgar Releasing. Trafalgar Releasing is the global leader in event cinema distribution. A subsidiary of Trafalgar Entertainment, Trafalgar Releasing’s global operations include production, acquisition, marketing and distribution of specialized content to over 8,000 cinemas in more than 120 countries worldwide. Wendy also talked about her first reaction to seeing "Dio: Dreamers Never Die", saying: "When they put the film together and we had a private screening for me, it was my first chance to see all the little bits put together, and it was very bittersweet. I broke down and cried. And it was just exactly how I wanted Ronnie to be portrayed. They had done such a magnificent job. And that was just really, really — after all the hard work we all put into it, it was, like, 'Woah.' I think the fans are absolutely gonna love it."

This won’t be the last time you think of “This Is Spinal Tap.” It’s difficult to imagine that that comedy’s creators weren’t influenced at least a little by Dio’s act, even if it wasn’t until later in the ’80s that he made it a nightly habit to wield a prop sword and slay a 13-foot, laser-eyed dragon on arena stages each night. The sadness of the end is that, even in his late 60s, Dio was a man still very much in love with and enthused on music and life. Interviewed immediately after stepping offstage at what would be his final ever performance with Sabbath offshoot Heaven & Hell, he's already looking at what's next, because sitting around at home is boring. When he's in hospital, his calmrefusal to be defeated is as inspiring as it is, ultimately, heartbreaking. The film’s directors Don Argott and Demian Fenton comment: "People who have conviction, talent and heart like Ronnie James Dio are in short supply these days. It is refreshing to share his inspiring story of believing in yourself and chasing your dreams. As life-long DIO fans, it is incredibly humbling to bring Ronnie’s journey to the screen and we can’t wait to share it with audiences."
