About this deal

Drybrushing is a common technique used in layer painting alongside edge highlighting, and in that context it’s not much of a big deal. Just get a brush, put some paint on it, then wipe nearly all of that paint off. Drag that dry brush against the sharper details on your miniature and voila, off comes the paint. It’s like edge highlighting, but a bit softer and over a larger area.

Enamel: Enamels are oil-based and dry to a hard, durable finish, making them popular for painting model kits and larger figures. They normally have a glossy finish. Of course — Citadel colors wouldn’t be household products if they weren’t good. Citadel colors have consistent quality across the board. Their coverage is almost as good as Vallejo’s, the consistency is ideal for thinning, and they flow smoothly from the brush onto the model. I prefer using a mix of Reaper Master Series Paints or The Army Painter colors for painting miniatures. This is because I really like how matte (non-glossy) these paints dry. The matte finish helps me blend and layer the paint and also maintains visible contrast on the model, even under poor ambient lighting conditions. The dropper bottles are nice, too! The key is to focus on the basics and build upon them, don’t be overwhelmed with all the bells and whistles that come with miniature painting. Start by understanding the basics such as types of paints, brushes, primers, etc. Once you have a good grasp of these tools, then you can branch out.Sanding twigs like these are less than a quarter-inch across, and can easily bend around most shapes.

These colors even work in airbrushes! No matter what tools you have at home, you can start practicing your painting skills immediately. Whilst you’re learning this you can break an airbrush, again do you want to take that risk with something super cheap or something 10 times that price. Some miniature painting starter kits come with miniatures that you can start to learn to paint right away. Reaper makes great starter kits that contain 28mm scale miniatures in the Fantasy genre. I venture to guess that the most popular miniatures are for roleplaying games (RPG), such as for Dungeon and Dragons (D&D), Pathfinder, or Frostgrave. Featuring your standard dual-action finger trigger and solvent resistant ‘O’ rings. It has adjustable trigger tension a reversible needle cover to either expose the needle for close up detail work or protect it the rest of the time. Strangely I was unable to find any detail on the paint cup volume, so I’ll just say it’s large. The other brand I recommend and my personal favourite is the lesser known Stynylrez from Badger Easy App Surface Primer. Once again this is pre-thinned and comes in a variety of colours and sizes. But I prefer the finish this gives over the Vallejo and the Grey (which is my preference in most cases) is more of a 50% grey (estimate) than Vallejo’s more 25% grey (estimate) which may as well be called Dark White. But this is harder to come by (in the UK at least), is a bit more expensive and can be more prone to clogging in the British climate. But If more people buy this though they’ll hopefully start exporting more, so if you want to support me in any way, please try some so we can get more over here. Layer paints manufactured by Citadel (Games Workshop), The Army Painter, and Vallejo are the three most common. Washes

This is my philosophy. Keep your hobby simple when you’re first starting out, and let the other “needs” emerge. To make a plastic miniature, two halves of a metal mold are brought together and hot plastic is pressed in between them. Sometimes the plastic seeps out where the two halves of the mold meet, creating unsightly ribbons of plastic called mold lines, and several different tools can be used to remove them. Note: If I say Nozzle or Needle, I am generally talking about both components. In most cases, they work as a pair. The nozzle needs to have an equal size hole to the diameter of the needle. Best airbrush Nozzle/Needle size for models This is the primary benefit, especially for those in cold or damp climates, with rattle-cans you will find inconsistent results depending on the outside temperature and humidity. In some cases, you simply cannot prime your minis as the air properties will have too much of an impact on the drying of a spray can, and your primer coat could be ruined. TLDR, this is where you want if you can stretch to it. It’s not that much bit is probably still almost doubled the cost of the portable and mini airbrush options above.
