About this deal

Great surface for paint or paste-the-wall wallpapers (read more below if you'd like to use paste the paper wallpapers)

My old country house has solid stone walls and boy do they feel cold inside. Not being able to have the cavity insulated -'cos there ain't no cavity - for years I've been seeking a solution to this. This product should not be used in isolation for projects such as new builds and extensions where Building Regulations are applicable. If used as part of a system that both adds to the insulation value and protects the surface from fire it may be compliant but expert advice should be sought. Apply a good amount of adhesive working away from the corner to the wall enough to hang 1 strip at a time of thermal liner (apply approx.1m wide - KV600 1.3m Wide), This is so there is enough to cover the edges at both sides using a medium pile roller and a brush for the top, bottom and corners.Insulation is amazing stuff. Remember the days of 3mm polystyrene roll (I think you can still get it!)? I recall as a wee kid coming across this stuff on a relative's old house wall, and being fascinated by how 'warm' it felt when I placed my palm on it. I realise now that 'warm' means that it didn't conduct heat out off my skin... You do need as PigletJohn says to consider window reveals/eaves etc otherwise you end up with fat walls that don't work where there is a detail. There are far more scare stories about CWI than actual problems. If you have a defective wall with holes in it or loose render; or a gutter spilling water down the wall, then you need to fix it. If you have a cavity filled with builders rubble then it should not be there (it is quite tiresome to remove) A. The roll are extra wide so each roll will cover 7.5 m2 or 121 ft2. Please use the link below to calculate the square meterage you may require, you will need to select Klimatec Thermovlies on the scroll menu. http://www.erfurt.com/cms/en/advisor/advisormain/calculation.html

When used in isolation this product is suitable as a localised ‘problem solver’ for cold external walls and is not recommended for use in fire escape routes or on ceilings. You can however use a normal Stanley knife but make sure you have loads of spare blades as you will need them. Alternatively, wallpaper can be applied directly to the surface. We strongly recommend a ‘Paste-The-Wall’ type of wallpaper.

Surfaces painted prior to 1960 may contain lead pigments and special precautions should be taken when preparing such surfaces. NB This is not a dedicated sound insulation product and the control of noise pollution is a complex subject so we cannot guarantee satisfactory results. For comprehensive information we recommend that advice from a specialist consultant is sought. I've personally not used it as a retrofit solution(only new build) so I can't give an idea of costs (and I would be wary of a cost per m2 as it will vary hugely depending on the complexity of the job), I have however seen it used successfully and attractively by others so it may well be a possible and practical solution.

If you're lining a new wall, then you can apply the thermal liner directly to the plasterboard. However, if you're lining an existing wall, then you'll need to apply a primer first. This will ensure that the thermal liner adheres correctly and doesn't come away from the wall.I would also think that, once it's adhered properly on that wall, it ain't going to shift easily. So, follow the instructions carefully, and allow PLENTY of time to ensure the proper adhesive has fully set. You can apply over a paper product e.g. lining paper, woodchip embossed papers. Do not apply over vinyl or blown vinyl wallpaper, as this will reduce the breathability of the thermal liner. Again lightly sand then PVA bond the wallpaper. A. Two main reasons, 1) It makes it much easier to achieve a nice neat finish with minimal filling and sanding 2) It helps protect your investment from damage creating a good base for paint or decorative wallpaper at the same time. It's always best to choose a breathable thermal lining paper option, and KV600 is one of the most trusted on the market.
