About this deal

It started one evening when I was watching TV and my attention was drawn to a documentary on adult colouring, a fad that I had never heard of, and was very big globally.

We currently have three 24 piece pencil sets, two 12 piece sets, one 48 piece set, and with this new set we decided to go with 36 pieces. All these 180 colours are unique and we have no duplicates. Each set compliments the next set. What’s the process like for creating a new set of pencils? How long does it usually take from conception of the idea to selling the products? Finally, the Monarch pencil set was released in 2020, and was their most recent palette before this month’s release.

Customer reviews

PENCIL CORE DOESN’T BREAK WHEN SHARPENED! The soft wax core and tips of these art colored pencils don’t crumble and break when sharpened or when pressing down to extract darker shades when blending. This means less sharpening is needed, so the tips of your colored pencils stay sharp longer. The Monarch and Skin Tone colored pencils have the same ebony barrel color but a colored end cap. The end cap is similar to the pigment of the pencil but not exactly the same But as it's one of the features boasted, that they don't break easily, I was disappointed to lose the 2 I did (for reference, dragon light rust and dungeon were the worst offenders although castle and sable has broken a lot too.) That brings down a fair amount of the value for money, if I find other pencils I haven't had chance to use as much are also broken down the barrel.

We have an exclusive behind the scenes glimpse at this amazing new pencil set, but before we get to that, what do we already know about these mysterious pencils? The performance of these pencils is quite capable for their target audience. The color output is good and the blending between various colors is serviceable as well. We didn’t experience much wax bloom until you start heavily layering. The next set is called the Scorpion Edition set. Almost as if they heard our complaint about the first set, the second set focuses more on “earthy” colors. Also available in 24 pencils, the Scorpion set expands on the greens by adding multiple new shades including “Grub Green”, “Irish Green”, and “Olive Green”, to name a few. It also adds to the already relatively large repertoire of yellows from the first set and expands on a few more browns and skin tones.it may work out cheaper (depending on sales and specials) to buy a complete set of another brand rather than by set by set SUPERIOR QUALITY-The portable colored pencil set with individual slots to the better arrangement of 72 pencils for you. The sturdy pencil lead is made of high-quality material. These high-quality materials can be used by all, whether you are an artist or a student. The durability and ease of use of these pencils are also quite nice. They should hold up to typical wear and tear. We didn’t find any glaring issues with using them either in detailed pieces or more broad pieces where spreading large amounts of color is necessary.

Given all that, it's understandable that the price isn't as high as professional brands. If there's just the couple that are broken, I would still say they're good value. They're better than cheap stationary brands, but don't have the lightfast guarantee you get with pricier options. Wether there are better quality pencils out there at this price, I don't know, depends how many others are broken I guess. But those are my two big hang ups.

I was amazed at what I was watching and was mesmerised by the fantastic pictures that colourists were producing –but the thing that really caught my attention was the health benefits this pastime was giving to the consumers. I've had mine just over a week and I've used them most days. I use a pro grade sharpener and I'm careful how I sharpen them. But a few of them I'm finding are broken quite badly down the barrel. I've had two pencils where I've sharpened half the pencil away before realising and giving up. With the wax content, there's tip in the questions section re: heating them and letting them cool which could work, in theory. My company Medihealth 1 was predominantly set up to sell feminine personal care products. You might well ask, “How did a healthcare company get involved with coloured pencils?” Many people that were colouring had numerous conditions such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, etc. This hobby took their minds off their relevant issues, and they enjoyed a few hours of relief. I'm a fine artist with a degree and experience with a wide range of art materials and brands. Avoided colouring pencils because I find them too hard for my arthritic hands, usually. Dabbled with a few brands, but generally too hard for me. I wanted better quality than kids pencils but wasn't up for the price tag of polychromos... so I bought these.
