Then, wipe it over the wood to remove any remaining paint stripper. Coatings with textured surfaces can be easily removed using our X-Tex Artex Remover utilising a working wet system which makes it safe to do. Yes, it would be fine for removing Artex from beams. X-Tex won’t damage the wooden surface. Depending on how old the beams are there is the possibility of them being covered in a dark stain also. X-Tex will also remove this. If you wanted to, you could also sand the wood after you’ve stripped the paint. But, of course, this all depends on what you intend to do next. If you plan to repaint the wood, sanding is essential. As you may be aware there are quite a few products of this kind on the market. The most common of these come in the following forms: Gel Type Paint Stripper Most DCM-free paint strippers have just replaced one hazardous solvent with another, but Eco Solutions patented technology removes the hazardous solvent content and replaces it with water. Leave the Home Strip on the surface for about 40 minutes and then test a small area to see if the paint is ready to come off. The scraper you use should simply slide under the paint or varnish and a little elbow grease may be needed. The video shows an extensive test where we tried to remove 4 coats of paint in one go but by applying a little less Home Strip and being a bit more patient, you can remove the 4 coats in two attempts. Once the paint stripper has worked its magic and the paint has loosened, you can then go in and scrape it away from the wood. Although paint stripper is readily available and arguably the easiest product to use when trying to strip paint from wood, it’s not the only option. If you’re looking for a cleaner, more natural option, these could work for you instead: Once you have scraped off the first coat, inspect the surface for any remaining paint and then repeat the process if necessary. Due to this, it can be great for use on decorative moulding and odd shapes where scraping would take a life time. Using this method, it is possible to remove textured coatings such as Artex without causing dust that contains asbestos fibres.
