Description

Compatibility: Ensure that the wall-mounted PIR sensor is compatible with the control systems or devices you plan to use. Compatibility may include communication protocols and voltage requirements. Lighting Control: In lighting control systems, wall-mounted PIR sensors can be used to automatically turn lights on when motion is detected and turn them off when the area is vacant. They are often used in hallways, stairwells, and outdoor lighting. Mounting Location: Wall-mounted PIR sensors are positioned on walls, typically at a height and angle that provides the desired coverage area. The mounting location is crucial to ensure effective motion detection within the intended space.

Our wide range of standalone PIR sensors and microwave presence detectors are designed to reduce the amount of time lighting is left on unnecessarily, for example if an area is unoccupied or if there is already sufficient natural light. Presence detectors are also known as Occupancy Sensors and Motion Detectors - please see our Knowledge Hub for more information. Energy saving through presence detectors Detection Technology: Wall-mounted PIR sensors use passive infrared technology, which relies on the detection of heat signatures emitted by moving objects. When a person or object moves within the sensor’s field of view, it triggers an activation signal.

Coverage Area: The coverage area of a wall-mounted PIR sensor depends on its field of view, which is determined by the sensor’s design and placement. Some sensors offer adjustable sensitivity and range settings to customize the coverage area. Our goal is to provide one stop place for electricians and electrical contractors, but we are happy to help other clients too. Our presence detectors enable you to autonomously save energy through only using lighting where necessary and turning lighting off when it is not required. All objects emit some level of radiation (not visible to the human eye) and the hotter something is, the more radiation is emitted. The sensor detects levels of infrared radiation impinging upon it which varies depending on the temperature of the objects in front of the sensor. When a warm object (person or animal) walks in front, the temperature in the sensor’s field of view will increase from room to body temperature. The sensor converts this change in the incoming infrared radiation into a change in the output voltage and this triggers the detection. Energy Management: Wall-mounted PIR sensors are integrated into energy-efficient HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems to adjust temperature settings based on occupancy, helping to save energy in commercial and industrial settings. A presence detector monitors the detection zone for occupancy; if a person is sensed then the detector will automatically turn the lighting on. When the area is vacated, the lighting will turn off after a pre-set time delay, thus saving energy.

Power Source: Wall-mounted PIR sensors are typically designed for low-voltage operation and can be powered by low-voltage DC power sources. Some may also operate on battery power. Sensitivity and Time Delay: Wall-mounted PIR sensors often have adjustable sensitivity settings to control how easily they detect motion and time delay settings to determine how long the sensor remains active after motion is detected.
