About this deal

Matthew Reinhart is an illustrator and pop-up picture book maker, creating the successful Encyclopedia Prehistorica series with Robert Sabuda. They both live in New York, USA. With so many layers and moving paper parts - water-colored on all sides - readers may begin to feel like paleontologists unearthing fossils. Dino fans won't be disappointed. As a mother of three boys, I've accepted that dinosaurs are an inevitable stage of their development, but I hate everything about them (the dinosaurs, not boys). They're so...not pretty. But clever paper crafts, I can get behind. I actually enjoy flipping through this with my son. With Sabuda lending deft paper engineering to artwork rendered by Reinhart, who also wrote the book's text, the Mesozoic's major players leap into three dimension.

Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs - Matthew Reinhart

Hardcover. Condition: New. The classic Sabuda and Reinhart pop-up work in a limited and signed edition; in hardcover and with slip case. There is an additional pop-up unique to this edition. Signed by Author(s). Book. For readers looking for a provocative introduction to life millions of years ago, this superb volume offers instant appeal. So freaking cool! My 4YO is just old enough to not tear up the pop-ups (at least, so far so good). The words are a bit dry and technical for his age, but he doesn't mind while he is lifting the flap to reveal the next feat of paper ingenuity. Likely to pass this gem of my early childhood onto another kid in the family, I decided I would spend some time rereading it. While some facts have become a bit outdated — as the author puts it, "We all make mistakes, paleontologists included" — it holds up pretty well. Most of the changing science is just clarifications that have been made since, not outright falsehoods. This mini-encyclopedia presents a great introduction for many young folks to the lost world.
