The machine is of convenient hand holding and at first I didn’t feel anything uncomfortable. After spending an hour hunting with it, however, my arm got tired. I felt a strong desire to put the detector into another hand. And it’s not because of the armrest. It’s all okay with the latter actually, I could not even ask for better. The issue is about the balance in the detector’s build. I now have an Equinox, before that, here in Australia I had an Explorer 2 and an e-trac, loved both of them. The Field 1 setting is for coins and artifacts, while Field 2 is for artifacts and fine coins. Park 1 setting detects general treasure and coins, while Park 2 detects fine jewelry. Beach 1 setting is used for dry or wet sand, while Beach 2 for surf and underwater hunting. Low frequencies give more depth on large targets, and high frequencies are usually more sensitive to small targets. In these situations the machine has become so noisy with false signals and corrupted target responses, you would’ve been better off leaving the machine in factory settings.... which by the way were designed by Minelab’s testers to give new users a head-start.Although these two metal detectors come with more the same features, the Equinox 800 is a bit advanced technologically. It also leads to its multi-frequencies that come in handy when searching for different types of items. The detector DOES NOT come with a power source. You will get a USB cable that connects to the lithium battery. Minelab recommends a 5V 2Amp charger. This recommended power supply will charge the batteries to full capacity in around 12 hours, but if using a lower rated power supply, the charging time will be increased. High target response allows to distinguish targets perfectly, but at that you are loosing the search depth.
