The EXH-8 capsule provides 4 additional XLR inputs, giving you a total of 10. Each additional input has a dedicated gain knob and pad switch. You can even use your favourite condenser microphones—just connect a power source to the EXH-8 capsule to supply phantom power. Now several months in after first buying this unit and still very happy with it, in general. However, the touchscreen is a real pain to make fine adjustments to volume, etc. So dont expect to do much on that. Also, strange thing seems to happen when I have it plugged in via usb to the mains supply and I connect a phantom large diaphram mic as well as any other phantom 48v mic - seems that the large diaphram drains a little too much power sometimes and the H8 just shuts down unexpectedly. Lost some work that way. there are also other features on ZOOM H8 but i was using it only to record music so i can not say nothing about other features

Different inputs: Look out for multiple inputs as this will allow you to mix up the microphones you use; from lav mics when presenting to XLR inputs for boom mics and shotgun mics to record ambient sound. Transceiver port for optional bluetooth module (iOS-only at publication time of this article) to remotely monitor levels and transport controls You can monitor level meters and hit REC,PLAY, and STOP in each H8 application mode. Just insert the BTA-1 to your H8 and connect to your iOS device. The H8 Control App is freely available from App Store. My test recording is ahead in this article.Fortunately, the preamps in the H8 have been improved to be cleaner than the earlier H6 model (which obviously makes it even better than the preamps in the H5 which I used to own). My understanding is that the actual gain in the H8’s internal preamps is the same +55.5 dB as the H6 but (unlike the H5 or H6) without the hiss at maximum amplification. Although I don’t own a Shure SM7b (the most gain-hungry dynamic microphone I know), my colleague Curtis Judd tested the H8 with an SM7B in his review and he found it to be clean at maximum gain with a more than healthy level.
