A spin of a D6 nabbed us a Secure the Facility Mission. There are three objectives on the map, so we https://geni.us/PariahNexus marked each of these with a piece of surplus scenery. Engage on All Fronts – 1 Victory Point at the end of each battle round for a figure in each quarter of the map However, these items don’t often have a direct like-for-like available. Whilst you can compare the new Auric Flamekeeper from the Fury of the Deep box to an Auric Runemaster easily enough to work out a rough price comparison, it’s not so easy to draw a parallel between the Kill Team Starter Set Core Rules book and the much larger full-price Core Rules available separately. As far as I can tell, the double-sided game mat has the same (and if not the same, a very familiar) print on it to the gaming board that came with Kill Team: Octarius.

GenCon 2021 is going on and Games Workshop is unloading the reveals. We’ve got a look at the new starter set for Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team and it’s, uh…‘Not’ Octarius? Just take a look. Terrain Effect: Biophasic Leak, which means any model in 2″ of an induction diode cannot use invulnerable saves. If an expansion charges as much as the Starter Set, you’d rightly expect content on-par with that included in the original box. But this just doesn’t happen with the Pariah Nexus expansion. Area Secured – at the end of the battle, score 1 Victory Point for each objective marker you control. The Necrons netted a whopping 3 Victory Points in this turn, bringing the score to Space Marines – 8, Necrons – 5. The Space Marines needed only one more Victory Point to win, but all it would take was one good Necron turn and things could change…! Turn 5 – All to Play For

And, since no faction’s Kill Team canconsist of more than two Fireteams, this means quite a few of the currently available Kill Team configurations can simply only have one or two types of miniatures in them. Space Marines, who can only have one Fireteam, are especially hit by this homogenising effect.

The increased buy-in cost isn’t the only complaint, either. As a few other reviewers(including everyone’s favourite soothing-voiced nerdy YouTube uncle,Tabletop Minions’ Atom Smasher), have remarked, the list-building rules in the Compendium not only appear pretty light on Abilities and Unique Actions(which helpgive distinct, meaningful in-game roles to thevarious different operators), but also leave many factions very limitedin the variety of models they can fieldat once.Whilst the colour scheme is themed towards the Necron setting, there’s a lot going on on both sides of the board, which can make figuring out what’s what quite difficult. As I said, I’ll not rehash all the rules and mechanics, as you can browse them in our Kill Team: Octarius guide. Suffice it to say that, from the perspective of a long-term 40k player with tastes skewed more toward storytelling and atmosphere than competition, Kill Team 2.0 is very promising indeed. Similarly to Kill Team: Rogue Trader, one of the easiest ways to get into Kill Team is to get the Kill Team Starter Set. In addition to including terrain, this starter set includes two completely playable teams. Never did I find it a particular annoyance or hindrance to play. It’s just not that big a deal, you guys.
