Upon installation of solid rivets, the headless end of the rivet is beaten out or pressed down to keep the fastener securely in place. As permanent fasteners, rivets are less prone to failure due to vibration than other threaded fasteners. This is the great-granddaddy of all other rivets, consisting of a simple shank or shaft with a head at one end.
