Description

Eliot, John Betjeman, Lewis Carroll, William Shakespeare and Christina Rossetti sit alongside Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, Carol Ann Duffy, and Kae Tempest. This is an extremely eclectic collection, including a diverse range of forms, styles and genres of poetry written in the English language. These poems are funny, thoughtful, inspiring, humbling, informative, quiet, loud, small, epic, peaceful, energetic, upbeat, motivating, and empowering!

There are, certainly, poems in here that a young reader may enjoy, but I think an adult would get more out of poems that deal with larger issues such as love, death and life. The selection appears to cover the most well known British poets, so there should be at least a few that you like - assuming you like some poetry! I’m not really a fan of the format; each piece of information could have been in separate lines or columns. This entertaining evening of poems will be read by Tom Hiddleston, Asa Butterfield, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Kate Fleetwood, and Dária Plahtíy with live-drawing by Chris Riddell. For those who do not read much poetry, for those who do not know where to start, this is a fun and easy commitment to take on.

Although published by Macmillan Children's Books, I think this collection is more suited to an adult reader. Katharine Towers' second collection explores the fragility of our relationship with the natural world.

We will journey through a calendar year, linking to events on key dates and reflecting the changing seasons with poems that are thoughtful, inspiring, motivating, humbling and humorous! What is particularly enjoyable about this book is its layout providing detail about the poet such as the time they lived in making it a wonderful collection to dip into and I would thoroughly recommend adding it to any book lovers collection.

This soul-enhancing audiobook is the perfect gift that will last the whole year, with a little bit of magic to hear every day. She takes huge inspiration from nature and animals, and has a mild obsession with colour and pattern (and coffee). There's also an excellent extract from Shakespeare's The Tempest, which in itself is a play of pure poetry. Best Poetry Books of the Year, The Times For the whole family but especially eight-plus readers, A Poem for Every Day of the Year.

A Poem For Every Day of the Year is a magnificent collection of 366 poems compiled by Allie Esiri, one to share on every day of the year.I haven't actually finished the book yet, but I'll forget to update goodreads later so its now or never.
